Wild Type Imbellis

I just got into the hobby of fish and I was looking at wild type bettas and I couldn’t wait to get on because I’m so impatient, and so doing little research, I just decided to get this little guy but when I got the betta it didn’t look as it did in the photo it was advertised with. I’m assuming that the seller had just gotten the fish from being imported and it was stressed but do wild types look like this when they are stressed? How can I make his colors pop more? I still have a few more days until the 10 gallon I will put him in finishes cycling but until then I will keep him in a container.

I think a good way to bring out his colors would to feed lots of live foods along with vitamin-rich staple foods. It's a very nice betta!

He will look better when he gets out of the bare tank and into a habitat.

If it really is a wild caught fish it will likely need to be trained to eat prepared foods rather than live. Your fish would appreciate some leaf litter at the very least while it is in the temporary container. Make sure you are doing water changes in the container too.

Not "wild" but "wild type", meaning unmodified line with the same characteristics of a wild fish.
