Was dumbstruck this morning. Beautiful ring-neck rooster was strutting across the gravel road on my way to work. Didn't even think to take a picture.

Ouse

This Sunday I went to my local woodland: Houghton Hall Park. This is a 42 acre park with woodlands, fields, play features and a cafe. A diverse variety of insects, birds and long-eared bats live here.

Here is the East Woodland:

Here is the West Woodland:

IMG_20210502_154202_965.jpg
Here is the most impressive tree:

Here is a view from a bench:

IMG_20210502_154142_012.jpg
And here is the biggest animal we saw there!:

IMG_20210502_154401_712.jpg
On the same day I went to a pond in the town of Wixams near Bedford. In the pond there are carps, ducks, geese and swans that interact with people. The carps follow people around the pond and are used to receiving food from them, same as the birds. Here are some photos:

The last photo is pretty interesting. A carp was about to snag a chick, but the mother swan pecked it until it swam away.

Algonquin

Looks like Spiderwort :) I have one with pale blue flowers in my garden.

Kribensis27

What is it called?
Yes, it's spiderwort, in the genus Tradescantia. There is a huge number of species. Mine was wild collected here in MN, and looks almost identical to that.

Demeter

Was walking around the yard and found a box turtle. This one looks to be an old female, she’s got nicks here and there on her shell, hardly a tail to speak of and missing toes. She’s been through a lot it seems.

Also had a garter and little brown snake hanging around, I didn’t take any photos. They did however eat some worms I dropped nearby for them. Might upload some videos of that later.

Took this yesterday at the Irish National Stud and Gardens. Not "wild" so much as "Living the fat swan life." Phone photo. Had to leave the SLR at home this trip.

That's the biggest slug I've ever seen!!
That's fairly average for the sort we have in abundance here. I can't stand them and call them "living turds", lol. There is one large type that has a bright orange/red underside and stripes. I suspect it may be toxic to birds, etc. That kind is attractive. But slugs... no!

And when I say "in abundance", I mean it. Besides being in the garden, after the rain, the sidewalks are full of them.
