Wild Caught Fish Species?

What species of common fish are almost always wild caught and what are you're guy's opinions on wild caught fish?
I personally am against it just because I feel like if a animal is born in the wild it should stay there. As well there's always story's on how destructive to the environment catching wild fish can be.

Green spotted puffers and chinese algae eaters or almost always wild caught. Many high end African cichlids and rainbows are wild caught too, and they're really expensive. I don't think amateur or uncommitted fish keepers should ever get their hands on wild caught fish. Often then not the wild caughts are used to breed and bring a new species into the aquarium trade. They are very sensitive and should only be kept by experienced fish keepers. So long as the species isn't being annihilated in the wild due to over fishing then I think it's okay

Nearly forgot about the saltwater fish. Loads of those are wild caught, in fact I dare say most are. Oddly enough, I've heard that the captive breeds are more expensive. I suppose this makes sense, it must take an insane amount of work to keep saltwater fish fry going to adulthood.

Also glass catfish are 99.9% almost always caught from the wild as they are extremely hard to breed!

All fish sold started somewhere, even captive bred ones.

Wild caught fish can be surprisingly well adapted to captivity and readily eat commercial fish foods, sometimes the same day. I'm talking about North American sunfish species that I caught myself years ago to stock a manmade pond. Yes, legally with a gamefish license. So I guess my answer is no, I don't have any problems with it. It can actually be beneficial for endangered species to be bred and spread in captivity for hobbyists.

While there were a high number of wild caught african cichlids initially, these days better than 90% are pond or aquarium bred. Some are bred in ponds near the actual lakes where they originated. Genuine wild caught demand very high prices when they are available.

Rainbowfish in commercial channels are never wild caught. This is due to laws in Australia and the difficulty of collecting in Papua/New Guinea. Most species are so prolific that getting just a starting group will establish a species in the hobby very quickly.

I am also reasonably certain that CAE are not wild collected, but pond bred in the far east.

The wild caught fish are usually the less common Plecos, though some of these are being aquarium bred now as well. I believe a fair percentage of Cardinal Tetras are still wild caught, and the simulans Neon is absolutely wild collected. However, these fish are collected at a point when water is high and the population is maxed out. When the water goes down, about 80-90% of those fish would die naturally anyway, with a relatively small number surviving to breed the next wet season. Collecting is not allowed during this time of year.

These aren't common fish, but I have not seen them for sale as captive bred. Pygmy sunfish. I am genuinely surprised by this fact! My pygmy sunfish have personalities too big for their bodies, and I would say that a pair could do well in an unfiltered 1 gallon tank (as long as you kept up on your water changes)
