Why Won't My Shrimp Breed?

Hello, so I purchased a shrimp colony a while back and they haven't been breeding at all. The shrimp are B&W Taiwan bees shrimp, the tank is fully cycled, I'm using ro water but they don't seem they want to get it on. Do I need to use shrimp minerals or shrimp food to get them going? Should I buy stratum? I'm confused :[

Shrimp need minerals in the water to breed. Warm water and frequent water changes help too.

What type of minerals and how do I supplement them?

Most shops only sell female shrimp over here to stop you from breeding your own.
If you have 20 and you can't easily spot both sexes you might only have 1 sex.

What supplements are you adding to your water.

Bee shrimp need the mineral additives especially with the RO water as there is next to no minerals in it. You can find nearly everything you might need at this shrimp site.

I am be no means an expert or even a novice at bee shrimp. I've gone as far as cherries and amano shrimp. One thing I will note is shrimp breed more readily with plenty of organic matter. Leaf litter, driftwood, plants etc all create the perfect habitat for shrimp to breed.

I bought them online from msjinkzd when she had em cheaper. My tap water is super hard so I'm roing for that...... I have almond leaves in the tank, driftwood, and moss. Anything else I'm missing? I'm using black gravel for both tanks.

What is a cheap mineral? I don't wanna bust my but for these guys lol.

What are your tap water parameters? If they're not truly bad then it would be better to use it, or at least mix it with the RO.

RO water has no minerals (GH and KH are 0, and pH is often low.) Shrimp need minerals and calcium to molt. RO needs to be remineralized, which means water additives.

Of course, nothing will help them breed if they're all female, as mentioned.

Just in case it makes a difference, if you haven't tried testing your tap water after it's been left out for 48 hours you might want to do that. Mine is 8.2 right out of the tap but settles to 7.5 when it's off-gassed two days later. So my tank's steady at 7.5. Just leave out a cup of it, wait two days, then test pH.

The tap ph is 8.6 and ph in tank is 8.6 also. Z_z

They'll need at least some GH, RO is just pure water and contains nothing that will help them. A GH of around 4 is ideal for crystals/bees. You'll need a KH/GH test kit for that. Additionally, 8.6 is extremely high for caridina shrimp, I'm surprised they're still alive! Caridina breeders use a buffered substrate such as aquasoil or shrimp stratum to keep the ph below 7.
