why is my usually green bars under stars pink?

so I noticed my little green bar is pink instead of green... why? I'm guessing its bad is there a way to see how I earned this? iv done nothing to deserve this that I can think of. please help, very discouraging to see on my first forum iv joined. thanks

 

Unfortunately the red bar means that someone has given you negative reputation for one of your posts. To see which post you can click on My Settings located in the upper right hand corner of the screen. That will show you all of the posts that you have received negative or positive reputation. If you think that you have been given negative reputation you can send Mike a private message.

 

how do I send mike a message? all I did was recommend aqadvisor to help stock a tank.... very annoying.. heres the post.

Megan is correct, negative reputation can be given if someone strongly disagrees with something you've said.

The only time I'd remove a negative rep is for something that is completely unwarranted.

In this case someone disagreed with the link saying it was a great tool. Some hobbyists like it, some don't, thinking it may give new hobbyists misleading info and I can see both sides on the issue.

I don't want to get into the habit of having to remove negative rep when it's a toss up like that. Keep making good posts and you'll have plenty of green bars.

Is there another link to see which posts are negative or positive reputation? I click on My Settings but see nothing. Or is this option newer and I haven't posted much to get any reputation since the forum change. (I do have positive reputation though)

 

Everyone starts with one green box. If you're not seeing anything under "My Settings," then you haven't received any rep yet.

 

it was pink but got some more good feed back now its green again. should have never been pink though.

 

Mod hat on: You think you shouldn't have been given negative feedback. Someone else obviously disagreed. Mike looked at the feedback, and chose not to remove the negative feedback, which means that he feels that the someone else had a right to give you negative feedback as they did. I've looked at the feedback you got. It was explained why it was given to you. Whether you agree with it or not, the information was put out there for you.
We don't always have to agree with the reputation we're given. I have reputation that I disagree with. However, as long as it's given within the rules of the rep system posted above, we live with it, learn from it, and move on.

 

I'm fine its not that big of a deal. just because were talking about it ill go on. someone had stocking questions I suggested a stocking web site that two or three people agreed with including a very active member ken. now I'm wondering if he gave ken the same negative feed back. my guess is no, now that seem very unfair. if there are three or four people agreeing with me on the same thread then they all should get negative feed back. its not like I said only follow this guide none others...... then I would deserve it. the only thing this has thought me is that my rep might be better if I never posted anything. like I said still love the site and won't stop me from posting in the future.

edit I just noticed that they can leave a comment. didnt see that before that's a nice feature makes me feel a little better. I guess it would take a lot for me to give negative feed back.

 

<mod hat>Actually, only two other people supported it, and both with caveats that it isn't gospel. Ken's link is not to the tool. It's to a thread explaining whyisn't all that good of a program, in which many active and experienced members of the forum express much the same opinion.

Whether or not anybody else got negative rep is really immaterial, as the advice given was not the same. If three people stated the same thing, and only one of them got negative rep for it, even that would still be within the rules, though it would be a jerk move.

Again, while you don't think you deserved it, Mike and the mod team are in agreement that the way it was given is just fine, and thus, it stays.
With that, since this thread has gone full circle, I'm closing it.
