Why Is My Male Platy Afraid Of My Female Platy?

Hi!
So I recently got 3 platies (platy?), one male and two female. After a short while, I realised whenever the male one got close to the females, they would scare him away or something, as in, the female would swim towards the male a bit and he'd just swim away really quickly.

Sorry I'm really worried about this and it's my first time keeping fish

 

is he a lot younger than them? I know males are supposed to be smaller than the females but are they like, a LOT bigger than him?

He is about the same size, the females being larger than him of course. He doesn't seem extremely young like the fry I saw in the store.

 

fish can be funny, maybe they are just establishing a pecking order, if no one is getting hurt it is okay and i’m sure it will settle down eventually

 

Maybe he just doesn’t know how to speak to women
