WHY does my husband insist on buying fish??

So I finally get to sit down and see the pic he took of the fish he bought that the fish store is holding for him. Yea, the peacock tank is his. But he did also stuff a fish in MY tank last weekend too that was completly out of place. I already feel bad enough because I have a hybrid cichlid in there and I have no choice but to keep it, because I will not kill it or take it back to the fish store... but he bought the big blue odd ball (electric blue cichlid its beautiful but it sticks out like a sore thumb!)... we already had one in there a female.. I am trying to get just zebra cichlids and kenyI cichlids in the mbuna tank...he keeps saying, we are going to have to get another 55 just to separate species of mbunas.... I think he is doing this on purpose.. and saying these are "my fish"... now who has the MTS?? well let ME pick the fish!
I WANT SALTWATER!
Anyways... he just impulse buys fish.. by their looks not is it the "right" speices for the tank. So he saw some pretty peacocks for his peacock tank today and much to say, he didn't even ask my advice, and bought them. Now we pick them up tomm. No, they aren't hybrids... they aren't MalawI Lake cichlids either... they are Aquarium Line bred species..... Rubenesns. they are pretty.. but he doesn't research or anything.. he just BUYS
I have to take care of these fish, and if they breed w/ MY fish so to speak in the tank that I have to care for, the "oddball hybrid" fry will be hard as heck to get rid of....

We bought the "Konings" book.. I have books upon books on cichlids... and speeches upon speeches to him on how I wanted to just have certain species in the tanks...no hybrids.. nothing is getting in his brain... maybe when we get to the store he will just give up, get his money back... buy a couple female kenyi....and get over the peacocks..... we will have to get on aquabid to match his peacocks w/ females...

He needs to get his own tanks for that..when hes stuffing mine and then I need more tanks, he makes remarks about the house looking like a fish store... (my mil said if we added the tanks that I said we were we might as well get a business licesense and open shop... shes even making jokes)

lol... looks like today after working all night last night, I didn't get to sleep.. my 2 year old is sick... and being stressed worried about him even w/ my mil watching him.. I watched the fish.. they stressed me... I took the female kenyI out that is holding... the male is being a pure jerk! he had her hiding in the top of the tank... I don't know what he was trying to do to her? cause her to loose the eggs? so he could spawn again? I think we will just have to get 2 female kenyI in place of my hubbys fish today!

she can't care for fish, but she does do good w/ my kids! but I would have to refuse to sell to her... lol

You need to take him to a Saltwater store.

With my MTS horns hidden.... and Saltwater plans in motion.. I nudged my husband into the Saltwater section of our fav store where we will be buying our Saltwater stuff.. he has already started picking out fish.... we are up to at least a 90g tank now for what he is wanting (and I was only wanting a nano.... silly me!!!) I did good today.... We are already getting rid of our computer desk to make room for a bigger tank and getting a small one that I used in college... then.. the treadmil is going in a small corner instead of across the room.. both making way for 1 55g, and 2 90's.... 1 90 for a mbuna.. the orginal 55 we have we will put the peacocks in... then a 90 for SW...

however.. my 2 year old which wasn't feeling well had the time of his life.. he picked his clothes out before he left.. dressed from head to toe in nemo shirt and hat.. he fell for the Saltwater section.. it made his day!!!

Think he could do better becoming a member of fishlore and doing some research. But so could my wife, wish she had! lol
Only difference between Saltwater MTS and fresh is Saltwater cost more...

A lot more our little 30 gallon we had cost us around $1000 to get all set up. If anyone ever does salt water and can do a bigger tank. Do it. Not much fish can fit in a 30g.

True.. I'd like to start with at least a 120 gallon on SW. I think it would be easier for a first tank with keeping parameters good and all.

I wish we could have a tank that big in our house.. we are going to have to put concrete footers under one part of the house just to get a 90g for the mbunas (going to be an expensive tank!!) I will prob have to get a 55 gallon for the reef.. our floor supports those well. after talking to him about the 2 90s there is no way we can put that many footers under the house.. (I hate living in a double wide!! we started to buy a nice brick home when we were house shopping, then we decided to buy a double wide so we could live on the land two houses down from his parents and be close to his grandparents... now we have to wait to build a house, when we do.. we have a den and a half planned for a fish display! we both have planned a concrete floor for heavy tanks) (we could have built a really nice house for what our doublewide cost we got one of the "expensive" high end 70000.00 ones.. soooo stupid!! big regrets... )

We're going to have to move to a 3 bdrm apt at least before we could go with a Saltwater tank that big.. we already need a 2 bdrm with the tanks we have.
