why do so many newbies get glofish...

Cody

I think there eye catching colors are a reason for sure then they get a tank set it up throw in a fish then they look at the internet and find out that they did everything wrong...I learned that way I think a lot of us did...like `15% water changes...why not just all new water... fish will out grow there tanks...a algae bloom I remember so many of the things I learned... I have been a fish keeper for over a year now and I have learned a lot...any other story's from the other members

Jimold

I thought about it. they're kinda cool looking. But I know adult angels eat little fish, and there's no way an angel would miss a little fluorescent fish, so..............

cant you keep tetras with angels

Only larger tetras. Smaller ones like Neons or Glowlights will often become Angelfish lunch.

I think goldfish are the standard. Goldfish have been put into our head through tv shows, CARTOONS... all forms of media... storybooks. Think back to before we all had tanks... if someone said "fishbowl" or "fishtank"... what would we have automatically thought? "GOLD-fish-bowl"....

We were all conditioned!! But now we have been enlightened!!

COBettaCouple

i've not seen glofish in person. fortunately i've yet to come across dyed fish.

Amnagrla

hahaha okay.... COMPLETELY DISREGARD WHAT I SAID!!

I just got finished reading a post about glo-fish danios and someone made a mistake about glofish vs. goldfish. Then I come here and spew off some goldfish speech and it's not even about goldfish!!

When I bought my Glofish,I made sure that I can put them with the fish that I have. But it didn't make a difference, they killed them anyway, well they left 4 alive. But I never wanted any Tetras or Danios,I wanted all Angelfish. And I couldn't keep any of them alive,no matter what I did. When we lived in Germany I had 2 big Angels and I did everything wrong that you could possably do wrong and they did great ,they wouldn't stop laying eggs. Now living in the U.S. I did everything by the book and they died.

aww, that's just part of your charm.

I think glofish wouldn't last long with neons or dwarf gourami.

I think glofish wouldn't last long with neons or dwarf gourami.

Could you please let me know why, it is not possible to keep glofish (zebra danios) with neons or dwarf gourami.

Mine is in a 42 G with serpae tetras and they don't bother each other at all..

I was also planning to get a dwarf gourami soon.. Will it cause problems?

COBettaCouple

the altered bright coloring attracts other fish and causes them to be viewed as targets by many fish. gourami are territorial and neons can be little fin nippers.. so disaster could be inevitable.

I thoguht that dwaft gourami are very peaceful

So, I'm going to strike off the Dwarf Gourami I was planning to get...

COBettaCouple

well, it's not 100% certain they'd end up dead, but I wouldn't risk it.

Cody

gouramis are beautiful but mean at times

lilsoccakid

all I'm looking for now is fish that have a strong personality like bettas, that's y I picked a dwarf gourami. any other ideas for fish like this that can fit with a school of tetras and a dwarf gourami?

Cody

I always kept zebra danios...not glofish...just straight up zebra dainos with my gourami ..I even had a bala with him at one time....but if the bala woudl get to big bye bye tetras......but the thing is...all fish are have different personalitys...so you never really know
