Why did my healthy platy die?

I had 8 platys in my 29 gallon aquarium and yesterday I fed them. One of the ones I had did have a tendency to overeat and bloat pretty bad, but usually recovered pretty well. Yesterday I fed them some pieces of a pleco wafer. The one overate and was pretty bloated, so I decided I wasn’t going to feed them for the next couple days. This morning I found her dead. Belly was open and exposed and a long string of poop was coming from her also. Did she explode? Or did she die of bloat and decomposed? Should I do a water change to be safe just in case she released toxins into the water?

Kinda nasty but a picture maybe? Stringy poop sounds like parasites but sometimes its natural. Ive never heard of a fish exploding but I bet its possible.

And yea I'd do a water change or use some prime to detoxify ammonia if there is any.

I already disposed of the fish, sorry . And yes I have a known parasite issue in my tank that I’m going to start treatment on once my medication comes in the mail. Should be today

Ok, thanks. I probably should anyway so I can start medication when it comes in.

I have a new guppy with camallanus worms, one of them has them sticking out and I am treating the aquarium today because it probably infected the aquarium. When reading about it, I read that some people have had their fish explode in extreme cases of the parasite. It is very likely that some other parasite caused this. It is also why I am worried that the male platy that I have seems pregnant... I hope the treatment I use today fixes it as it is meant for quite a few other worms and parasites too.

I'd suggest changing water too just to be on the safe side. A picture on the diseases forum would help someone identify if it was actually a parasite. If it was it is very likely the other fish have it too and it's best to find out what it was. If it's too late for a pic, explain to the best that you can what it was like and someone with better knowledge on the topic could help you out.

I'm sorry I read your reply now, even though you posted half an hour ago. I was on the phone but had the thread open. It did notify me that there's a possibility of a new post on it, but I didn't realize I had the tab open that long. Good luck in treating the tank.

I'm doing a 80% water change right now before I add my medication tonight.
