Why Are There Bubbles On My Surface?

I recently recharged my purigen and when I put it back into the tank I noticed a layer of bubbles on my surface. i've looked into different reasons that cause bubbling and am worried that it might be because of cleaning products. I recharged the purigen as instructed.

I also have a powerhead and a aquaclear 110 on my 40 gallon. is it just because of high surface agitation?

I have also been over feeding the tank but don't know what bubbles look like because of excess protein. I noticed this last night and fish seem fine. could someone help me diagnose? I also checked my water parameters and they were all in a healthy range.

Proteins cause bubbles to stick together. You seem on the right track.

gotcha! is there a chance it might be bleach residue from the purigen? I did decholrinate for 8hrs with prime after the 1:1 bleach/ water.

You said you'd been overfeeding. It's most likely the food proteins you are seeing as bubble joiners.

I think you were right. I started feeding less and the bubbles stopped. thank you!
