Pet stores will often buy all their fish from from specific breeders and they probably buy all their bettas from one person. As for them all being female, I've heard that some pet stores like Petco and Petsmart will sometimes specialize in one gender.

All bettas have come from overseas breeders, that are shipped to California (large import port), then out to each store. Stores can request bettas of specific types, however not every store will try.
They also have no control over what colors are sent to them, they just get whatever has been packed up and shipped. So one week could be all red or blue, next week it could be all fun colors (ex veiltails, most are red or blue, rarer to get multi colored ones are yellows or vandas).

Occasionally i have seen bluish male babies at Petco, but yeah most of them seem red/pink. Of course, most of their adults tend to be one of those 2 colors as well.

I'd guess it's because they're common colors and they don't expect them to grow up into a super fancy profitable adult. It'd be more cost-effective to sell them off early rather than using resources and time to raise them instead of a more expensive fish.

That's just my guess though. I don't have insight to the betta industry.
