Who's Your College Football Team? - The Smack Talk Thread

midna, hey, I know you said you loathe football and your teams were terrible while you were at UNT but hey! They're doing much better now and in fact made ESPN's Top Ten last week! They ran a sort of "fake" fair catch on a punt from Arkansas. Basically the rule when catching a punt is if you raise one hand to signal a "fair catch" then the other team can't knock the poop out of ya when you catch the ball and your team gets the ball where you caught it. If you DON'T raise your hand then you can get hit but you can also run like the wind and maybe even score. So here we go...#TeamGreenMachine

midna, looks like your daddy's Aggies are playing at Jerry World against the Razorbacks from Arkysaw. I think mattgirl is a hill person. I'd love to see Arky win this one but after the beating your guys gave them I'm not sure there's any hope. Their new coach is the same guy who was at SMU and before that gig he was the OC (offensive coordinator) at Clemson for Dabo Swinney. Yeah, I know, tmi.

There's going to be a good bit of movement in the polls today, mostly in the form of rearranging those who are already in it. At least that's my guess.

It's GAMEDAY Mitches! Coming live from the Texas State Fairgrounds it's the greatest weekend in college football, Texas/OU!
And then later we get to watch Kentucky dismantle Jimbob Fisher and the Aggies of College Station.
And finally tonight the Hokies of Virginia Tech meet the Catholics from South Bend for an old fashioned baptism!
Are you ready for some football?

Sorry Kentucky, nice try though! And the Longhorns probably upset Kyler Murray's Heisman hopes today. Boo-hoo. LOL! And the Domers are currently having their way with the boys from Blacksburg. Oh, and the Baptits of Baylor won another game! Will wonders ever cease?

LSU and 'Bama will meet up at some point and then we'll see who's who. Any school that would fire Les Miles after the success he had doesn't deserve to win though so I'm a bit torn, lol.

Well, well, my old friend the football thread! My Baylor Bears concluded their season last night with a win in the Texas Bowl over Vanderbilt from the SEC.

Oh, that's right, it's BOWL SEASON! The 2nd greatest season in all of sports behind only the NCAA March Madness.

I've got $20 on Clemson to beat the Leprechauns of Notre Dame this Saturday. I made the bet with a co-worker who's a huge Irish fan. The game is in Dallas and she'll be there and hopefully leaving in tears. Early would be even better!

So what bowl are you looking forward to? tOSU in the Rose? Texas in the Sugar? A&M in the Gator? Aside from the CFP you've only got 5 days left to get your shot in so if you were ever going to talk some smack now's the time.

Yep. Same point I made to this gal I work with. I told her that if the Irish lose and lose badly it is going to impact how they are looked at for years to come. The 2012 season and them getting to play 'Bama that year and getting drilled will be brought up too. If they beat Clemson then their inclusion will be validated and that's fine - but if they lose? They're going to have to dominate everyone they ever play to get back in. Just my opinion.

I see it as disrespect to the big 10, second year in a row they weren’t included. I hate this whole set up more than anything. You win your division you should make the playoffs, that's how every other sport works, even teams that are second or third in their divisions make the playoffs. Just going to be alabama or Clemson winning it again, even though clemson is only here again because they have a cupcake schedule. But of course you go undefeated and play a few “ranked” teams, you make it.

4 spots, 5 conferences, 2 "legacy" independents (BYU & ND)... someone is going to get left out EVERY year.
The CFP will tell you that they're not trying to find the most deserving teams, i.e., champions from the conferences - though that IS supposed to be one of their major criteria - No, they tell you they want the 4 BEST teams to play in their little tournament.
If you're the champion of a lousy conference then you don't make it, see UCF for example. 2 years undefeated and nope, sorry pal, you're not good enough.
Ohio State and Penn State both have won in their conference and then been snubbed. Georgia is probably a better team than Oklahoma but they got snubbed. It seemingly makes no sense the way the CFP committee operates and yet paradoxically they are by their standards doing what they are supposed to be doing - Finding the 4 BEST teams.
Some years the best teams lose a game along the way, it happens. Doesn't mean they aren't a better team overall than the one they lost to, they just had a hiccup.
Ohio State has made the playoffs and won it all when by most METRICS they had no business being there but the CFP saw something and boom, we have our mythical national Champ.

Still loved it when Ohio State beat Bama in the playoffs the first year they existed...then dismantled Oregon for the Championship. I still remember all the crying and temper tantrums the ESPN people had because there was no SEC or Jameis Winston in the championship game. Lol

That being said, can't wait for new season already, because I work security for the games and when your team is over 300 consecutive sellouts, it is nice to get paid to go to the game!!

One more game! I'm picking Clem to win it, I just think they have a better overall team this year. Their weak spot may be the QB being that he's a true freshman but aside from that I don't see any big weaknesses.
