I despise football lol but my alum is unt / north texas. I don't think they won hardly any games while I was attending haha. I think in my senior year or a year after I left they built the new stadium. waste of money.

Wow there were some stellar games on over the weeked. E.g. Miami v LSU (GO LSU), and a fun one to watch was the florida state Noles vs VT last night.

 

Hokies looked good last night. I don't know if FSU is just bad or what but the VT defense looked to be ferocious.

I just can't cheer for a business. Colleges are not too far from that but it's still amateur. I'm not buying any Yankees or Mets gear any more than I'm buying General Electric gear.

This is what TAMU does. It's the annual rollercoaster. Starts off with talk of a Heisman for their unproven QB. After beating a cupcake there's talk of a National Championship. By late October the wheels will have fallen off and the talk will be of next year is the year! And then they holler "WHOOP!". Rinse and repeat.

It was interesting to see who struggled and who rolled. Still early though and the non-conference schedules won't give a true picture of who is a contender and who is a pretender but they're are clues to be found.
TCU may be overrated, TAMU underrated and there may not be a program in Florida worth watching this season.

Here are the top 3 changes I would make to football to make it acceptable to me.

1. Abolish the time clock. Nothing irritates me more than the QB kneeling to run out time
2. Set a number of possessions each team is quaranteed to get during the game.
3. Do not hand the ball to the opposing team after scoring a TD. You score a TD, you keep possession and receive a kickoff. If you go out on downs or score a FG, then you turn it over. This would make it so the game is not over until it's over, like baseball. I hate it when the game is essentially over in the 3rd quarter because a team has too big of a lead.

My changes would make comebacks much more possible and the game more exciting as a result.

It's a college sports talk thread, you see teams playing one another all the time that are horribly mismatched. Even in high school it happens. If kids don't play in high school and college you don't have any pro sports. Your #3 makes no sense.

 

It looks like there might be some games on the East Coast interrupted by Florence this weekend. I see that there's a game this afternoon between Campbell and Coastal Carolina on ESPN3 at 1:00 CDT though I don't know if this is a regularly scheduled match or something thrown together to avoid the storm. Odd recollection,I think Coastal won the CWS a year or two back.

Seeing your post just now made me realize I forgot to check my roster for fantasy football. All good. I only have my kicker playing tonight and I’m leaving the rest as-is anyway.

I just play in a no-money league with co-workers on ESPN. I’m not very smart about football. I basically just play the players whose projected scores all add up to the highest. I like going in and talking smack with people I’m playing against when I really don’t have much clue what I’m doing lol.

 

I'd never even heard of it until around '98 when my son had a project to do for school that was basically making a fantasy lineup where each player had a dollar value and you were given X amount of money to make the best team you could (it was basketball). Then a few years later a friend invited me to join their just-for-fun league and that got me started. I enjoyed it for the most part. That friends brother played with us for a couple of years and dropped out saying "I don't know WANT to know what some obscure player from CincinnatI did over the weekend, it ruins my football". And that's where I am now.

Here's tonights college football lineup. Not much that intrigues me, the Georgia State/Memphis game might could get interesting but I think Memphis will blow them out.

Happy to oblige! It's good to see the overrated SEC teams get taken down a peg or two. TAMU had beaten two teams - Louisiana Monroe and Louisiana Directional, lost to Clemson and were ranked. Why?? Good for UK, they seem to be the real deal this year but the bias shown in the polls is real. I can't wait to see the polls later today. Texas beating TCU and Texas Tech beating Oklahoma State should shake things up a bit, not to mention Old Dominion kicking butt.
