Who's Your College Football Team? - The Smack Talk Thread

I'll start with who I HATE. Texas A&M University - doing less with more decade after decade.
I like most of the other schools in Texas to some degree, some more, some less. I've got 4 siblings and out of the 5 of us we've either gone to or graduated from one or more of Baylor, Texas Tech, UT, or TAMU. Holiday get togethers can be interesting.

I have one oddball brother who is an Oklahoma fan. We don't tell him where the family gatherings are being held.

I'm a Michigan fan first, but still root hard for State if they aren't playing Michigan. I didn't get into college football until later in life, so I didn't have that hatred for one or the other that most fans develop at a young age.

College Gameday starts their season AT Notre Dame in South Bend, IN this year. THAT's going to be hard to watch, lol. As a football fan I hate ND, having endured 18 years of Catholic upbringing I have mixed emotions. To borrow a FaceBook relationship status "it's complicated".

Kirk Herbstreit is a lot like the metric system, a tool of the Devil.

I keep expecting y'all to bounce back to the glory years but it just hasn't happened. Heck, Kentucky looks better than the Vols right now!

We definitely had a chance when we had Dobbs but Butch Jones lost it. We were close, really close. We had a stellar season until Butch did a bunch of wrong. Hoping Pruitt can do something with us, as we've got some really good players. He's completely changing up everything butch did though, Butch would pick skill and game knowledge over fitness, Pruitt is all about fitness and he's also completely changing our offense, going from dual threat to down under close NFL style.

I haven't seen very many teams ever change coaches and immediately improve the W/L's. It can happen, it just usually doesn't. Mostly due to it taking time for the players to fully grasp and implement a new offense. The new guys come in in the spring and install the new offense and the players get a little bit of time to try and understand it. Then they're (supposedly, HA!) on their own until fall camp. They only have a few weeks then to rehash what they learned in the spring and boom, the season starts. Most of the actual learning happens during games and what typically happens is they get much better as the season goes on but frequently, with teams only playing 12 games a year, they just don't even begin to "click" until late. If you have injuries then it just gets that much harder. It's the second year that you'll see real progress.

I think you guys have a good chance to be in the mix at the end of the year for a NC run. Barkley got a lot of attention last year and he'll be hard to replace as far as one individuals production but I think Franklin is doing a great job there and will have the guys ready.

Franklin went to college at the local school and my favorite bar in town has a sandwich named after him. That bar was/is popular with the college kids (unfortunately ).

Basketball doesn't start for a couple more months.
BB has already started for The Big Blue Nation.
We've won 4 exhibition games in the Bahamas already

Yeah but when you lose to teams we've never lost to and have the worst season in school history it souldn't be too hard to imrpove on that lol. Its definitely going to throw everyone off for the first season, but hopefully next year will be decent.

Baylor, my local team, lost to Liberty last year. Liberty. Baylor won one game last year. This is just a couple years after playing in back-to-back New Years 6 bowl games. Getting bad in football can happen really quickly. Getting good, not so much. I'd like to say there's nowhere to go but up but the fact is that a team can stumble around at the bottom for years. So there's up and circles. That's the two places.

What in the ??? What's WRONG with you people??? This isn't FISHEYE LORE.

I'm so ready for college football to start. I'm fully locked, stocked and loaded, I did all of my gameday prep last night.

Everything needed for breakfast tacos except tortillas, I'll get those fresh Sat morning.

Tito's Voda and Red Bull energy drinks, 8 Founders breakfast stouts, a case of Shiner Bock and a case of Shiner Blonde light.

I have no idea what my guests will be drinking.

I despise football lol but my alum is unt / north texas. I don't think they won hardly any games while I was attending haha. I think in my senior year or a year after I left they built the new stadium. waste of money.

my dad's an aggie.

Todd Dodge was supposed to be a for sure home run hire, he'd won high school state championships before he got the job at UNT and then crashed and burned badly there. Sorry to hear about your time there, the Mean Green were always somebody I pulled for.

yeah, I never went to a single football game my four years there. oh well. just not my thing. i'd always hear the cannon shooting off though at the start of the game.

I hear it starting now... oh No...... time to close my door and watch the keepers on netflix lol

my dad has faith in the new coach though. guess it's his first year. we'll see how they do

The boneheads in College Station have paid him $75 million. That's not a typo. Guaranteed money. He could come out tomorrow dressed in a clown costume and pirouette off into the Brazos river and they'd still owe him $75 million. Mind bottling.

Patience. This was just Act I of a 3 Act play. TAMU is FBS, Northwestern State is FCS (big difference, ask pops) - this was the game that gets the Aggie faithful all wound up and confident in their new Head Coach (what grown man calls himself "Jimbo"?).
TAMU plays Clemson next and that's going to be Act II where in an ironic twist of fate TAMU will be playing the role of Northwestern State.
Act III will come in November when we see the few remaining Aggies in the stands at Kyle field, frozen tears on their faces as their savior Jimbo finishes his first season at 5-7. I've been watching this ineptitude play out for 50 years, it's like clockwork.

#SmackTalkThread

Oh, and for something NSFW check out Kevin Hart interviewing Johnny Manziel while taking ice baths. LOL funny. I hope for the best for the guy. He was fun to watch while he was at TAMU and I hope he gets his act together, he seems like a good guy (when he's not punching his old lady).

You ever played the board game "RISK"? It's kinda like that, ground acquisition game but for realz with points awarded.

Here's an illustration from years ago that explains it better than I can.

LOL. yeah, my dad called them "some one-directional team" haha. I figured the first team would be easy. I want to send him this post lol but I don't want him to get hissy. I remember when he used to love "johnny football"

I'll be watching the syracuse game. Armys gonna get its butt kicked.
Same game I'm watching. Dino Babers was here in Waco before he went to Syracuse. I totally believe he's going to turn them around and the conference they're in, he can dominate the north. There's plenty of talent in the Northeast to pull from too. He was an Art Briles disciple and has a grasp of the offense that probably only Arts son Kendal has. They can put up some points, they're just going to have to learn to balance it with defense, something Briles was learning and was getting close to at Baylor before the poop hit the fan.

Edited to add: My guys, Baylor, play Duke in a week or two, Cutcliff is a dang good coach. The game is here in Waco this year.
