White Spot treating with seachem paraguard for 3 weeks

I'm new to this forum... I hope I'm doing this right. I received this tetra 2 months ago from a friend, it was in a tank with an aggressive fish, now it has a white spot on its tail fin and I have treated it with Seachem paraguard for 3 weeks. The spot has disappeared before but now it is back. My other fish do not have any spots at all. This tetra is being picked on by another fish (an angelfish) that also came from the friend. It shares a 55 gallon tank with 1 angelfish, 4 corys, 5 otos, 3 snails, and 7 mollies in a planted aquarium. I'm thinking about putting the tetra and mollies in a ten gallon aquarium because of the angelfish. Is the one spot fungus? Is it contagious?

Is your fish acting weird? Does he have a lack of appetite? Is he still swimming around actively?

Welcome to the forum

Can you list your water parameters as well as the temp of the tank? We'll want to rule out water quality issues as the cause of the white spots returning.

However, I would not transfer the tetra and mollies to the 10g. You'd overstock that tank by doing so. If the angelfish is picking on him, I'd rehome the tetra as they are schooling fish and need to be in a group of at least 6+ of their own species. He could be stressed from being the only tetra and is therefore more susceptible to disease. He's also not temp compatible with your angel.

I watch him eat but spits out most of the food (freshwater flakes and sinking shrimp pellets is what I feed). Only lately have I seen him rub on rocks. Water parameters are pH 8.2, amm .25, nitrite 0, nitrate 5. I will rehome the tetra if you think that is best. I'm sure he would be happier.

Water temperature is 80

Yes, I think it's for the best that you rehome him. I'd also rehome the otos are they aren't temp compatible with the angel either. Why were you planning on transferring the mollies? Is the angel picking on them too? And what kind of corys do you have? They'd also do better in a larger shoal.

How long has this tank been set up? Wondering about that trace of ammonia. It should be 0 if the tank is cycled.

The angelfish picks on one molly but leaves the rest alone. I got the tank 3 months ago.
One of my plants constantly has dying leaves which I remove (an amazon sword) but it is growing nice new leaves. I do add plant food and liquid co2 as directed.
I do add 1/3 T salt to 3 gallons of water when doing a water change. And I add Prime along with tetra plus safe start bacteria to new water.
I use a carbon filter too.

Is the one molly sick or injured?

If you don't have root tabs for the sword, I'd put them in as they take nutrients from the substrate.

I would not add salt to the tank anymore. None of your fish need it and it could do more harm than good. Is it Tetra Safe Start Plus or the regular TSS for maintenance? If your tank isn't cycled, the TSS PLUS needs to be added all at once and no water conditioner should be added and no water changes should be done with it for 2 weeks. I would just dose Prime to take care of the trace of ammonia until your bacteria colony grows enough to support your bioload. I don't think you need to use a bacteria supplement judging by your numbers.

Ok, no more salt.
I have safe start plus. Should I stop using it and use only prime from now on?

All my mollies are healthy.

I would just dump the entire bottle of TSS+ in. It won't be effective to add it in doses. Test your parameters every couple of days to see that your ammonia zeroes out.

If the angel keeps harassing the molly, it might be time to rehome it (the angel). The molly could be stressed to the point of illness/death.
