My zebra nerite has this white area on the side of his shell, at the bottom. It appears to be on both sides, but more prominent on one side.
I think he's had it more or less since I got him (has been about 2 months) but he's not always in a good position to see it.
Today he let me take a picture.
Is this a normal thing, or does it indicate a problem with the shell?

So you have more than one, and they all have it? That makes me feel like maybe it is normal. I don't have sand (eco complete black substrate) so it''s not that.

At first I assumed it was a normal part of the shell growing, but then I saw other zebras that didn't have it. I just wanted to check to make sure it doesn't indicate some deficiency or something.

Yes they all have it. Are you talking about the little white specks or are you talking about the big white thing most visible on the first picture? Mine have little white specks from traveling around the sand. If it is the big white thing on the first picture, I believe that is the inside of his shell. His shell will keeping growing so that is normal. :)

Yes, the big white thing on the first pic! Oh good, glad it's normal.
