White Spot - eSHa Exit white spot treatment

I have two problems with my tropical tank and would be grateful for some advice.

I am now onto day 4 of eSHa Exit white spot treatment as most of the fish appeared affected. I am also on day 3 of eSHa 2000 as one of my neons developed cotton mouth. None of the other fish have displayed symptoms of cottonmouth.

This morning I completed a water test - API kit - ammonia = 0, nitrite = 0, nitrate was 40 ppm. Was expecting a high reading for the latter as I didn't want to interrupt the treatment however have now completed a half tank clean, including scrubbing everything before placing back in the tank, and a session of vacuuming. Was looking at fish a short while ago and can still see white spot, particularly on my two rams, and the neon still has cottonmouth. Again, no other fish (that can be seen) display symptoms. I can carry on treating the tank but how long can I expect this to go on? None of the fish appear 'ill'.

Thanks for reading this and for any response.

I can't speak for the cotton mouth as I have fortunately never had to deal with it. However, with ich (or white spot), you want to treat the fish for an additional 1-2 weeks after the last visible sign on the fish. If you end treatment too soon, it can come roaring back after going dormant in the substrate while waiting to release again. I have only ever used the heat treatment for ich and have never messed with medicating my tank.

Thanks. I have heard others say not to turn up the heater for ich? Anyways, back to Amazon to get more eSHa Exit, a gallon of it should be enough!

Theres a misconception out there about the heat treatment for ich. Yes, don't turn up the heat and then do nothing else as this will make the problem much worse. However, if you turn up the heat on your tank and couple it with gravel vaccing either once a day or once every two day, you have a winner. When the heat gets turned up in a tank that's infected with ich to around 84 ish, the life cycle of ich speeds up dramatically. This causes the ich to fall off your fish faster to spawn in the substrate, which is where the gravel vaccs come in. You suck it right up with a thorough vaccing, thus eliminating the disease over time. I have always used this method and it never fails. I wouldn't recommend doing both the heat treatment and using medication at the same time however because it can cause too much stress on your fish.

Thanks for both responses. I am medicating for two problems so, at this stage, am not going to turn up the heater (as I am not sure what impact this would have on the other problem) but will vacuum the tank daily, if need be, as I appreciate that at least one of the problems, i.e. ich, has a life cycle involving dirty gravel (which I didn't think I had). What about the cottonmouth? Only one neon displaying this? Can never see the bumbles (x2), or the clown pleco (x1), as they're too quick for me!

Really sorry to bump this back up but I am still concerned about my tropical tank given my initial post and that nothing has changed? Forgot to say that the carbon was removed from the filter. I am not seeing any improvement and this concerns me. Thanks
