White Residue On Diffuser With Diy Co2

HI

I am running a diy CO2 setup ( 2 x 2ltr bottles changed on alternate weeks with check valves and bubble counter) been running for a couple of weeks now with no issues and plants are loving the addition.

I am now getting a white wispy residue appear on the diffuser, I have researched this and believe it to be the by product of using a diy CO2 system due to the yeast (feel free to correct me if wrong) (some people have suggested adding a bubble counter into the setup cures this I have one and still getting it)

My question is this, is this residue harmful to fish?

I just want to know if its an issue when cleaning if any of it floats off to be cleaned up by the filter or do I need to make sure its cleaned without getting it spread round the tank.

I don't currently have fish in the tank as establishing the plants first for a few weeks prior to cycling ready for fish but want to know in advance if its likely to be an issue.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Hello
It seem like your bottles it's below the water level, water from your tank can back up into the bottle and cause the mixture to ooze out into the tank. If you place the co2 bottles above the water line it shouldn't happen, also having check valves help. however It's pretty normal from what I experienced and it was harmless. Just requires some cleaning here and there as well sometimes to clean tubing with hot water the white build up will restricts co2 flow..

I've had the same issue with the DIY yeast set up. I always assumed it was some sort of algae build up on the difuser, because my snails eat it either no harmful effects. It's not a result of back up, or the CO2 mix getting in the tank. I use a 3rd separator bottle to prevent the mix from getting in the tank, and a check valve to prevent back up. The equipment will need to be cleaned from time to time, as stated. Here is what my system looks like.

I have check valves and a liquid separator also, however believe traces of yeast carry in the CO2 and this causes the build up.

Just trying to find out if the build up is harmful or not so I know best how to clean it rather than disturbing it in the water

Like I said I have noticed no harmful affects. My mixture lasts 8-10 days, so I clean it up when it needs renewing.
