Tank is a 125g (72”L x 18”W x 21”H), established for about 8 months, approaching heavily planted. I’ve been testing the water daily over the past couple weeks, and parameters have consistently been 0/0/~5. The pH is 7.0 and gH is around 100ppm. Temp is 78°F. I do a 25-50% water change weekly, the most recent of which was yesterday morning.
I picked up eight pearl gourami about two weeks ago, and the one in the picture has those white patches on the edge of its tail and behind its dorsal fin. I’m super new to the hobby, and unfortunately I didn’t quarantine, so they’re in my main tank. I actually noticed the white patches when I brought them home, but for whatever reason I kind of just assumed it was a physical injury, and it hasn’t really occurred to me to be concerned until now. I know how dumb that is, but I haven't been running at full capacity lately lol.
The other inhabitants are just twenty silvertip tetras. Besides the one gourami, everything else seems pretty happy and healthy; no visible abnormalities. I am temporarily lacking floating plants and my lights are pretty bright right now, so the gourami have all been spending more time around the taller plants, but the sick one has been a little extra elusive. I’ve caught it sitting behind/underneath the driftwood, or hiding near the bottom of the plants a handful of times, separate from the others. They range in size from two to three inches, and this one is one of the smallest, but I haven’t noticed any aggression .
It still comes up for food (and doesn’t waste any time doing it, definitely not skittish lol), and it gets along fine with the others. I just fed them about an hour ago, and it’s still hanging with the group now. It doesn’t seem to have any issues swimming/orienting itself properly, and generally appears healthy otherwise.
As of now, my best guess is fin rot, but I’d like some more input before I quarantine and try to treat it. The only thing that makes me wonder is why it's on its back as well, since the dorsal fin looks untouched and the tail isn't all that advanced. Is it possible that something nipped at it there and caused a hot spot for the bacteria/fungus? Since it's already reached the body, is it still treatable? If it is fin rot, any advice for treating it would be fantastic as well. Thanks in advance
