White patch on dorsal fin

My pearl gourami has a white patch on the top of her dorsal fin that appeared just 2 days ago. No other spots or patches anywhere else and is eating and swimming fine.

She did have a tear around that same spot a couple of weeks ago. Could the white patch be just that it's healing or is it something to be concerned of?

Looks like it could be scar tissue, according to your profile your 46 gal. is NOT overstocked so that's a good thing! If the hazy discoloration gets fuzzy or proceeds to spread then you would have a issue. Have you added any new fish?

Nope, no new fish. She joined the tank with the krib a month ago and no issues with any of the other fish.

I'll def keep an eye on her and hope good water changes heal whatever it is. Thanks!

Oh, I did get a new mystery snail 2 days ago and 3 nerites the week before but really doubt they would've been the cause.

Looks as if there is more tissue gone ar the end of the dorsal as well. Ot is it the pic? The dorsal of a female should be nicely rounded. Could be the start of finrot !!!

I was thinking the dorsal fin looked a little jagged too, but I have zero experience with gourami. Fwiw, snails wouldn't cause any damage to your fish, and I've not had a single disease in my tank (knock on wood), so I can pretty much guarantee you didn't bring any nasties in with your little one from me. I hope it's nothing serious. ...

Yes you're both right. And a little on her analfin. I'm thinking she may be tearing it easily on something when she's swimming really fast. She's very skittish still.

Then is it fin rot because of he tear?

Gone tissue in conbination with whitish edges point me towards finrot.

I'd first so some large waterchanges. Keep an Eye on her and if it will be worse, use a antibacterial med. Finrot can be a very fast destroyer !!!
I've a Cory without a tail cause of the finrot it had when I got him (to much tissue already destroyed).

Today is my scheduled water change day of which I usually do 50%. Should I do another sometime this week?

Yes I'd do that and see what happens.

Yes, I have an AC 50 and 70 with flow rate at their max. They're creating good current and bubbles.

If you end up using meds, make sure they don't have any copper in them or you'll likely kill your snails :/ I would try more frequent water changes first, from what I hear usually that will clear fin rot up without the use of meds.

Yup, I'm going to do frequent water changes and then resort to meds if it looks to be getting worse.

I also have a 10 gallon spare tank if I do decide to quarantine and medicate so I don't have to medicate the main tank.

I'm just more concerned what could be the cause of the discoloration. If it is because of torn fins then there's a chance it could happen again.

Do you have any plastic plants in the tank? It's possible that the little tear in her fin picked up something bacterial and that just progressed to the fin rot, I'd like to think that once she settles in and becomes less skittish she'd be less likely to hurt herself on anything, don't really know :/

You might do a quick once over on all of your decor, just to make sure there isn't a sharp bit she might have snagged herself on.

I have a large driftwood so that could be it as well as a rock cave she likes to hide in. I may need to feel around them for sharp edges.
