White/light colored substrate

DerekO24

I’ve always used black substrates to cover up detritus and any other kind of filth. Ready to try white sand or just a lighter colored substrate for a brighter look. Any tips I haven’t thought of to keep it relatively clean ?

I've always preferred dark substrate for that exact same reason. I've heard have corydoras helps because the detritus gets moved around which helps break it down faster

White substrate is too bright for the fish. Users who have white substrate often wonder why their fish are always so pale. Rather stick to using black substrate.

White substrate will get just as dirty as black, however the “dirt” so to speak is more noticeable against the colour white. Keeping substrate spotlessly clean would involve repeatedly vacuuming it, which isn’t recommended.

No fish.

Seriously, I find most fish tend to get washed out colours, stressed and skittish. Not too bright sand is fine, the brighter it gets the worse the effect on the fish.
