White Hair Like Stuff On Fish

Hello, looking for some help to determine the right fungal infection that I noticed growing on one of my fish. At first I thought it was Ich but looking online and s it doesn't match with what I see.

The best way to describe it is my fish decided to shave and now has 4 o'clock shadow of small white things mainly around his face and top of body. They are really small furry things very similar to hair but are soft that sways with the water current.

He doesn't seem sick, still very active and eating.

I am new to this forum and don't see a feature to add a picture. But small white hairy things like facial stubble is the best way I can describe it.

here's an updated . Sorry but photos were begin rotated when I uploaded them)from today. looks like symptoms are getting worse. These white things are a mix of really small hair like things and some small cotton ball type stuff. Any idea what it could be? He/she is the only fish with any symptoms. He doesn't seem to be in distress (yet!) Swimming normally and breathing seems to be normal.

It looks to me like its a fungus but I have very very little experience with it but that's my guess. I could try treating with some sort of antI fungal possibly waterlife protozin??

thanks Vicky. Unfortunately the poor guy was found dead this morning? whatever this was happened insanely fast. Had the white stuff 2 days ago and was dead sometime last night but didn't show any signs of distress. The fish didn't have any stuff on him when I removed it from the tank. I'm nervous now that whatever it is in the water. Will look at some fungal medication. I assume its safe to treat the water as a precaution if this fungus is now in the water or sand?
