White fir in new tank

HI I have no fish in tank yet, it is still cycling. What is the white fir growing on my rocks and driftwood. I presume most of you kind people will be able to advise me. Should I be concerned?? I am worried I have to start all over.

I set up my tank about 2 weeks ago and I had the same problem. I believe that it is just bacteria growing on the gravel.

What did you do about it? I am ready to stop the whole thing. I have done what I believe to be everything right, and now wondering if it was all worth it.

At first I didn't know what to do about it either. So I just stirred up the gravel with my net and it made the water all cloudy. 10 min later the filter removed it all from the water and it cleared up again. I didn't stir up all the rocks and left some of the bacteria on the gravel. Yesterday I went and got 2 neon tetras and a ghost shrimp, and the shrimp seemed to have a feast and began eating off the rocks. There is hardly any white stuff on the rocks anymore, so I am not going to worry about it. Sorry I can't help you more, I'm new to this too.

Thank you for trying anyway. I since learnt that this can happen on occasion and it soon will take care of itself. I hope so. I didn't want to use any chemicals in my tank if I could help it, so will wait a while. Maybe I could get a couple of shrimp. Not something I wanted though.
