White Dots on Snail Shell

HI guys!

I have a black racer Nerite snail in my 75 gallon tank. I recently noticed it has white, oval shaped dots on the top of its shell. It doesn't really seem to have any effect on the snail. I just wonder what the dots are.

Thanks in advance! Here is a picture of the snail hiding under a rock in the tank.
(Please excuse the horrible picture quality and little white dots, they're bubbles from my air stone)

Do you have any other nerites?

Yes, those are Nerite snail eggs. Those guys are sneaky and crafty. Look what it did to one of my mystery snails a few years back perfect concentric circles too!

Oh wow! The ones on your snail look really pretty, haha Do you think they will hatch? Thank you so much!

Yup nerite snail eggs, they won't hatch in freshwater.

No they will not hatch unless you have them in a Brackish tank setup with a specific salinity in the water. The eggs are just annoying because they lay them every where but eventually, the eggs will fade away and the nerites will stop laying them.

Yes, unless you have a very motivated pleco - my pleco's used to scrub the shells of my snails and even got some off of the glass..... It may take a long time though naturally to see it disappear.

Quite a few of my snails are speckled with nerite eggs...and so is my driftwood. They usually dissolve within a month or two in a freshwater tank.

Wow only a month? You must have soft water or something - mine took a year if not longer to dissolve

I have otos, I wonder if they would take any interest. I doubt it, but I guess we'll see! Thanks again for your help!

Wow, I've never heard of them sticking around that long! Not sure why mine dissolve within a couple months. We've got hard water and the tank is around 78.5 degrees right now because of this massive heat wave. Maybe they're being eaten off? I only have snails, but I have a mix of apples, mysteries, nerites, and a single columbian ramshorn...

I dunno! I remember how sticky the stuff was! I was surprised how I picked up a nerite with tweezers gripping the eggs ( trying to get them off ) and I picked up the entire snail! They were like super glued on there! Same with the decor and glass - scraping it off with a razor blade barely took them off, left a white semI circle every where I tried so I just let them be.
Luckily, none of my nerites lay eggs any more ( its been a good 3 years now )

Yeah I was going to say my nerites always decorate my decorations with eggs.

I never knew they were sticky! I've actually never touched one...I kinda want to now. Next time I siphon under my driftwood, I'll turn it over and see - those eggs are everywhere on the underside of the wood.
