Guys. I am so tired of having sick fish. I've just had one weird thing after another.
Tank is 75 gallon, cycled. Ammonia & Nitrite :0 Nitrate: 10ppm. ph: 7.4 room temp. Three small/medium fancy telescope goldfish.
I have had problems before with nematodes in this tank, and while I was told they were harmless, there were just so many and I nuked the gravel, hoping to curb the population. They didn't die.
I had four telescopes, all had ich, and even though I was treating it, it wasn't getting better and three of them died. It's weird to me that they would have died from ich in just a few days, and weren't even covered that badly with spots.
I have one of those goldfish left. He never showed symptoms of ich. He had some redness on his chin, which to me looked like a mild bacterial infection. I've been treating with Melafix, both in the tank and a little in his gel food. The redness is almost gone now, and he is not acting sick at all. Fat and happy. So I added two new fish, which in hindsight, I shouldn't have done yet...
Because, I noticed today, that there are white balls inside his gills. This is not ich. These remind me of pimples. I have been researching this and I've found no definitive answer. I can't get a good picture because it's so hard to photograph the inside of his gills. There is nothing on the outside of his body except the very faint remainder of that redness I mentioned.
I did not examine the bodies of the other losses closely enough before I disposed of them. And I wish I could have checked inside their gills.
It looks similar to this, but you'll see nobody gave a definitive answer, and the fish died anyway:
White balls inside gills - any ideas?
But what do I do!? I assume I need to finish the melafix, which should be two more days.
Please help! I need this fish to live!
