I have a 2.5 gallon quarantine tank that had been cycled for about 4 months. I add in My black orchid betta, and everything is fine for about two months. Almost three weeks ago it un cycled. fortunately, I have a cycled divided 10 gallon. There is a betta in the right side who I moved in a week before. Since it was an emergency, I moved Legend in right away to the other side. Everything was fine for about a week, then I began seeing signs of it uncycling. Sure enough, when we took the water to get checked (because we were’nt sure if our new testing drops were the most reliable) and it was un cycled. We bought some stuff to raise our ph because the tank’s ph was naturally low and that contributed to it uncycling. We‘re also using stability, stress zyme, and tetra safe start plus. It’s been three days since we started dosing the ph stuff and one of the bacterial things daily. The stuff is supposed to raise the ph and recycle it within a week (I don’t buy it). We know it uncycled because of the sudden raise in bio load.
(This is the actual part, not the backstory) Atlas, the betta that was in the right side, soon got lots of ick. I’m raising the temperature slowly, feeding kanaplex Ed bloodworms (not daily) and dosing stresscoat, since I can’t put meds in the water bc the bacteria is reestablishing. The ick comes and goes through the day, it’s weird. But LEGEND has it much worse. Half of his face turned grey in streaks (his face is black) I don’t think it’s fungus, salt baths haven’t done anything and it doesn’t look raised, more like discoloration. Do you thinks it’s from bad water quality and stress? If so, I know that’s bad but that I can handle. I’m doing as much as I can to recycle if asap. The both still eat well (a bit less, but still a good amount) and have vivid colors.
