Plans:

55 gallon African Cichlid - Lake Malawi

Rocks available at LFS:

carved tufa rock
carved lava rock
pagoda rock
tumbled phyolite
rainbow rock
purple slate
rainbow slate
Texas Holey Rock

my question is which rocks are best used? i already am planning to get around 30 lbs of Texas Holey Rock, i was just wondering what else would be a nice addition to my tank to raise the pH and has a nice look.

Do you need to raise your pH? Many places have high pH from the tap, you might want to test your water first and see what your pH is.

You can always add coral to the tank to increase the pH, and just get the rocks that you like best

decided i will use:

Texas Holey Rock
Pagoda Stone

apparently slate does not do anything to the pH... i might use them for decorations though.

No, slate is safe. Since my pH is usually pretty close to 8, slate is about the only type of 'natural' rock I use
