Which pleco to start with breeding?

So! I want to breed a pleco. I want to do it right with the intention of helping a breed survive, increasing its numbers in my area (around bristol tn) and eventually, in the future, make a little money on when I have enough going.

I have thought about zebras but something easier to start or at least not as expensive, and I'm not sure which species ARE endangered and if I CAN help.

Suggestions? I don't mind long term, taking a few years to learn on another species but I need something to plan for!

 

One of the rarer species (but still one that's in demand) would work. I wouldn't do BNs - they're pretty common. To start though, if you've never bred plecos, I might go with one that has been bred in captivity before.

What's available to you? Do you have a price range, limits on tank size/number of tanks?

I'd browse Aquabid and Planet Catfish to see if one catches your eye.

 

Thanks Texas! I work with a LPS that I can get a range of them from and as far as tanks. Starting with a 55 until the end of this year. And I have a basement with two regular sized rooms to use. Already have 2 55s 4 10s 2 29s air pumps (getting battery operated one) sponge filters hob filters with extras (getting aquaclear) sand (getting driftwood any suggestions on that?) heaters et cetera..

 

Depending on the species, some require driftwood for munching on and other like it for hiding. Some like rocks and caves too.
I'd use Planet Catfish and find some small plecos that pique your interest. You can search for species in the family (Loricariidae) that are under a certain size.
