Which do you think is better known and kept in the fish keeping hobby? Bettas betta or Goldfishishy10? This is not which do you like more, it's which do you think is better known. Thank you!

That's a tough one. I say gf. Both are overbreed, kept in crappy conditioners, and treated w/ disregard to their species. Both are often beginner fish who are usually starter fish for new owners. Both are kept in too small tanks. Both are full of personality and both are lovable. Both really like their owners. Both are rewarding fish to own.

hmmm i would say it used to be goldfish...but i think bettas are quickly catching up. i think both are very misunderstood...and more information needs to be spread around about how to properly care for them.

I would say goldfish, but judging from how many bettas get sold each week in a LPS, bettas are very popular too.

I would put money on goldfish. How often do you see a tank in the background of TV with a betta in it?
People grow up associating fish=goldfish.

opps I didn't read your post Silver and I thought you meant which do I like better lol so I voted for bettas cuz I like them better
I think goldies are more commonly kept, especially if you go by number of individual fish not by tanks, cuz people usually will put like 5+ goldies in a 10 gallon but most people will only put one betta in a small tank or they end up with only one at any rate. I wouldn't be surprised though if bettas are more popular as I think it a hard call.

Stop trying to be clever, you can get orange bettas and black/white/red/yellow goldfish.

Goldfish for me. My very first fish was a couple of goldys I won at the fair. And, I can remember fishing and catching many carp with dough balls that my parents put into a pond. My parents called carp a poor man's koi.

I never knew about bettas until I started keeping fish as an adult.

Im on the fence aswell.
I must say I think it depends on where you are!
When I tell people I have aquariums they all say do you have those big pretty ones that are always kept alone? or do you have simese fighting fish? Most people around here think gold fish are only commonly kept in a pond.
I have to mention when I say I have a red tail shark everyone gets all excited, but then when I say actually its not a shark they ignore the subject lol.
