Which Is A Safe Company To Buy Aquarium Decorations From?

Is there a good company (possibly a "Made in America" products company) to purchase aquarium decorations from for a fresh water tank? (like fake tree branches and fixtures such as bridges, castles or sunken boats)

In my 38 gallon tank, I'm going to have live foliage, but I've been looking on Amazon, and all of the choices I've seen for decorations have quite a few people saying sooner or later the paint flakes off and starts contaminating their tank and killing their fish. Most of these products (I can't say 'all' because sometimes no one mentions where they are from...) are from China.

Is it better to just forgo anything like that and find a thick branch out in the backyard (cut down to appropriate size, of course)....and if you do that, what type of prep is needed so you still don't end up contaminating your tank/fish from natural byproducts of the cut wood? And should you avoid certain trees due to known issues with putting them in aquariums?

Color me confused.

Any tips, or guidance would be appreciated!

I think the items that flake and cause issues are plastic....?

That's my impression, at least...

What would the 3D ones be made of?... And would they be lifelike? I used to know someone with a 3-D printer...

Sounds like the people that are having issues are putting non aquarium decorations in their tanks. If it's made for aquariums it will not kill fish. My only assumption is that there was something else going on in the said tanks that killed the fish and not the decorations. If you cut your own wood just boil it for 10 minutes to kill anything that could be on it and stay away from sappy wood (not sure it's safe or not but I wouldn't risk it).
