A few questions on my stock currently and planned
(55 gallon, planted, Aquaclear 70 and hydro 40 sponge filter)
    Current Stock
    10 Nerite Snails
    4 Sunburst Platies
    11 Neon Tetras
    10 Panda Corydoras
    1 Bristlenose pleco

    Planned Stock
    10 Nerite Snails
    4 Sunburst Platies +2 more
    11 Neon Tetras + 4 more
    10 Panda Corydoras + 2 more
    1 Bristlenose Pleco

Now my question, I want to get Bolivian Rams or an American Flagfish
People say you should keep harems of the Rams (1 male 3 females)
Or the american flagfish because of their algae eating abilities and interesting color.
Which would be best suited? Or should I cut down on the fish? If you have any other fish to suggest (Tetras, energetic schooling fish, Anything that will work) is be appreciated.

You could have a single ram or a pair if you want.

Personally I would choose the rams over the flagfish as I have heard many stories of flagfish being aggressive.

Along with the planned stock and rams I think you could have an umbrella cichlid or a peacock goby.

You can do both rams and the flagfish, in my experience flagfish only hang around the top level.

Also, yes, flagfish can be aggressive, but they are much less aggressive in cooler water, which you will have anyway with the rest of that stock, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

So should I get a pair of bolivian rams, a harem or just 1 by themselves?
Also could I add a type of gourami? or would that be pushing it?

rams work best in pairs. I donĀ“t know if a gourami would be overstocking, but if you do get one, I recommend pearl or honey gouramis

I agree with chickenghost about the gouramis.

A pair of bolivians would be fine.
