Which fish to get: Otos, phantoms or both?

Hey so I am about to finish cycling my 40 gallon (120 L)planted tank with shrimp and snails and I can't decide which fish to go for.
I wanted to have a go breeding otos and/or black phantom tetras and each combo has its pros and cons.
If I have the phantoms I'm going to need a quarantine tank so they don't eat the the frys, but that will be hard to do for both these fish. Since otos breeding is very tough they also might disturb or stress them and stop them breeding.
but phantoms are relatively easier to breed, cheep and will eat any critters like parasites and moscito larvey that might get in my tank.
And otos are expensive in au $10+ and I want atleast 8 of each fish.
So what do you guys think? Would both be better? Should I try just the phantoms first? Will I have to take them out if I want to try otos? Or should I go with the otos first and not having any carnivorous fish isn't a problem?

Thanks

What experience do you have breeding and raising fry? oto fry are easy to raise up although not many aquarists have been able to breed them (Many have tried and failed the only person I know who has done it had a 180 gallon tank with 50 otos and nothing else and had it heavily planted, they fed food 4 times a day with an auto feeder and once a day by hand) although if you do figure it out it might be profitable
Tetras are easy to spawn, but the fry are harder to raise, they need to be separated, put in a small container (with very clean water) then fed infusoria, then newly hatched brine shrimp, this will definitly not be profitable as there is no way you can be cheaper to a store than when they are bred in mass quantity but it can still be a fun project.
I wouldn't do these two together if you do decide to continue, the otos will eat the tetra eggs and vise versa.

Hmm so both together are no good... that just makes the choice harder XD.

Since I'm a beginner what do you recommend? I think I would prefer to have a go at otos but if lacking omnivores causes a lot of problems then phantoms it is.
And if I give up on breeding them can these two be together nicely? And if they do happen to breed do I have a chance at taking the eggs out before they are eaten? (and the shrimp won't eat then would they?)

Thanks for the advice!

if your not trying to breed then they will do fine but pretty much everything will eat the eggs

If you want to breed something I would like to see someone breeding hill stream loaches (I recently saw a talk about them and apparently they are fairly easy, and doing so sounds so fun!)

They will ruin my plants tho?

nope, the guy giving the talk had them in a planted tank and they seemed fine (although I know that some species dig pits when spawning so that may be a problem if you have shallow rooted plants)

Yeah its the digging which may be a problem, but ill see.
