Which Eheim Canister Filter For 40 Gallon?

Hello.
Since I haven't got any good advice from my local aquarium forum I decided to ask from here.
I am looking a canister filter for my aquarium. It is about 150-160L so about 40-42Gal. I want to buy Eheim prof4+ but I am not sure if I should buy prof4+ 250 or prof4+ 350. I like 350 more becuse it is bigger and has one media basket more inside, but also I don't want to make a tsunami in tank. Maybe someone has an experience with those filters and can give some advise? I've never had any external filters so it is hard to choose.

I do not have any experience with eheim. The 350 has 280gph so that is not quite enough. That is max and will be lower with all the media in place. You could add a medium HOB to supplement and get the gph up.
I can say I am really happy with the hydor 350 (280gph) I bought for my 45g. I also have an HOB, marineland Penguin 350 (350gph), so the total gph is more than enough at 630. I probably could have gone with the Hydor 250, but I am crazy about being well filtrated.

Aquarium Filter Gallons Per Hour Filtration

Trust me I have read all threads I could find about canister filters. But problem is that english is not my native language and also I have to use converter for units (gal-L). Also most people say aI'm for 5x turnover and also they say that eheim is too optimistic about their gph.

I also looked hydor but I can't get any spare parts for hydor in my country. For eheim I can just go to shop and buy what I need. So you think that eheim 350 is not too big for my tank? I also like that it will be well filtrated but I don't want flow to be too grazy. I found a video on youtube where they test prof4+ 350 and with media flow was 168GPH.

I have the sunsun 304b on a 38bow and a 40b, gph is 525 I think, flow isn't too much...

for sure I would get something that replacement parts are available...

if you get a canister that creates too much flow, often the output can be moved around to point at a specific area to reduce flow... (towards glass, etc)

Does anyone know that does eheim give their GPH with media or without media? At the moment I have internal filter which has 800L/per hour and it seems good flow. Eheim pro4+ 350 is 1050L/per hour and if it measured without media then I think with media flow should be ok also. Or what do you think?

Eheim rates the filters with media. The 1050L/per hour on the pro4+ 350 is @ 0 head height, new clean media, all hose & fittings, sponge, everything supplied with the filter installed. When you change head height the flow decreases as it does with any canister.

I have the Pro4+ 350 on my 46 gallon bowfront, heavily planted but lightly stocked. The filter itself is amazing. I upgraded from a Marineland C-220 and have no regrets. The filter is very quite and has great filter media capacity. However, I have found that as the filter ages the flow has drastically decreased. I think the Ehiem pre-filter might have something to do with that in addition to age, I will be experimenting later tonight with that. My recommendation would be the Pro4+ 350 with a simple sponge filter in addition. That is my plan as I increase my stocking.

Today I ordered Pro4+ 350. It will arrive next week and when I get it in place I will definitely let you know how it works.
