Where to Purchase Larger Oscar

So I have an Oscar that is 6" and growing fast - eventually I want to purchase another Oscar but all I can find is baby Oscars in all of the local LFS and box stores. Are there places on the internet where I can buy larger fish so they aren't eaten by my current stock which are all 5" or larger? My Oscar originally had a partner but it died before it reached 3".

 

One of my LFSs often has some bigger ones available, think they are usually ones that grew faster than the owners planned for...usually look pretty healthy. Might take awhile of randomly dropping in, though to find them.

 

Is there an aquarium club where you live? They might have a lead for you.

Check at Tangled Up In Cichlids, I know he had some 5" plus Astronotus crassipinis, might have regular Oscars of size as well.

Oscars are a classic mistake fish and are commonly found for free like common plecos, when they out grow their tank or bore their owner.
If the owner can't plan for fish growth who knows what their hygiene is like, so make sure you have a tank or tub to quarantine in.

If you have a LFS that does rescue, odds are they have a pile of Oscars, arrowana, sting rays, RTCs, etc. I have one ~40 miles north of me. You may not be so lucky. If you live in MN you are that lucky.

EDIT: Right now on my CL there is one free Oscar (with Jack Dempsey and pleco), 2 Tiger Oscars (with 3 piranha), and 2 tanks that come with Oscars. As for "mistake fish" there is also someone selling a 29g and tagging it as good for Oscars.
Adopting free ones off of CL means they do not end up in local waters only to die when winter hits.
