Where To Place Carbon To Remove Medicine With Sponge Filter?

I am working on medicating a tank and soon need to remove the medicine from the water.
I have a bag of activated carbon but I wonder where to place it?

In a tank with a HOB or canister it's easy, put it inside the filter and you're done.
But this quarantine tank has a sponge filter so nowhere to put the carbon "inside".

Would the carbon do it's job just by laying inside of the aquarium or is there something else I need to do?
Or... do I really need to use carbon to remove residual medication or would it simply disappear after a while doing water changes and stuff?

You'll just have to do large water changes.

Laying it in there won't work as it needs water flow.

How about I temporarily add a HOB with just the carbon inside of it? That would work then right?

yeah that would work if you have an extra one.

I use to just throw it in the tank and let it sink or float, not ture it still works it will absorb chemicals in the water as long as you have (and I'm assuming everyone does) some kind of filtration or air powered filter or stone.
