So I just upgraded to a 55g. Right now there is a big castle off to the right of the center and 3 small rocks stacked (similar to the picture in my signature) and various fake plants around. I want to add some slate and possibly make a slate cave. Where can I buy it to where I know it is slate and not not sure.?

I seem to recall you could find it near the paving stones at home depot, in the garden department. I may be wrong though.

You can find it in the river beds here in AZ too.

You can usually get pieces of slate at a tile supply store. Good for making bn caves. People use it for flooring. They may even have some broken pieces you can get for cheap or free. Thou it is not as natural looking as actual slabs of slate as it is in tile form.

I called a local natural stone tile company and asked for broken pieces. I made $10 donation and left with a lot more tile than I needed....I could make tile condos for all my tanks still

That was a terrific idea. Lowes has 12"x12" in the flooring section for $1.95 and 15"x15" in the garden section for $5. I like the idea of getting a bunch of broken pieces for pretty cheap. I think I will look into doing that myself. Thanks for sharing.
