Where to get Cheap Aquarium Plants

I’m currently buying supplies and decorations for my tank and I didn’t realize finding aquarium plants would be so hard. Anyone know where I could get aquarium plants for under $10?

I’m looking for:
Java moss
Pearl grass
Brazilian pennywort
Ludwigia sedioides (mosaic plant)

If anyone on here is selling any of these plants for a decent price, I’ll be happy to potentially buy them!

(I didn’t realize buying aquarium plants would be such a pain smh).

 

Well individual plants should be in the 4-8$ range. Petco is a mix bag in terms of quality but if you have a good one they have excellent prices on fishes and plants (not so good on dry goods). We have 3 and 2 are kind of lame but the third has really good management is a winner.

As for your specific plants well the pickier you are the harder it is to find them. I poke around ebay and amazon and now and then find a good deal. Shipping is always an issue in driving up cost but if you can find a single place that has all the plants then shipping is manageable. Java moss tends to be not so hard as well as penny wort but the other two i've not seen so often.

 

I would try ebay. I've bought a lot of excellent plants for very reasonable price. They have been both times been a selection, 100 plants for 20 pounds, but can't choose the plants themselves. Both times quality has been excellent. I believe there would be something similar also in US.

The plants at my nearest petco aren’t that good and I would prefer not to shop there if I don’t have to. I think I’m going to try and be less pickier lol. I’ve also found some good deals on eBay, but the shipping price is usually higher than the actual price.

 

Aquarium Plants Factory has a lot of plants for under $10.00.

 

I also use Aquarium Plants Factory, you buy 3 and get one free or buy packs and get some free. They email you back with answers to questions.

 

I’m not sure if he’s still selling on here, but member Vishaquatics had some good deals for a lot of plants. He grows them submerged as well

 

Etsy also has a lot of aquarium plants for sale - seems to be a good variety of different types of plants too. As for pricing - I’m finding that I find the best prices at my lfs. I’m still upset with Petco - I got bamboozled into purchasing their prepackaged plants. Got them all set up in my tank then decided to look more into the plants, my fault I should have researched them, but I was antsy to get some taller plants for my background. Come to find out, they sold me peace lillies, masquerading as “betta plants”

 

Dustinsfishtanks.com I have been buying from him for year. His plants are very healthy, always gives you a little more then you ordered. He is also very helpful.

 

I like aquariumcoop but again unless you place a big order shipping will kill it.

I'm not sure about where you live, but here in Australia I like going online and buying plants from other people in the hobby. from what I've experienced other hobbyists seem to sell a good amount of healthy plants for way cheaper, AND you're supporting other people in the hobby. Once bought enough large and healthy java fern to fill 2 2ft tanks for $5 aud. the guy was super kind too!

Sadly no . The only one I have is petsmart, but basically all of their plants are $10 and I would also prefer not to shop at big chain pet stores.

If you want dirt cheap plants, check out places like aquabid, r/aquaswap on reddit, and the BST section of this forum that was just linked. Look for people selling or giving away plant trimmings. They take a while to do much, because they have to grow their root structures. That's why they're so cheap. But if you have plenty of patience, they're the option for you!

 

Etsy has a lot of store fronts worth checking out as well.
