Where To Find A Paradise Fish

HI guys,

I had a flowerhorn fish and few other fishes a few years ago. Flowerhorn became my favorite as it was sole fish in my tank and interactive. Since moving to US, I purchased 20 gallon tall tank, since I move a lot and was planning to have a betta as it will be sole and interactive fish in tank even though it felt tiny to me. Never got stable enough to get a fish though. Few months back, I moved to Raleigh NC and I will be here for a while, so decided to search for fish. I came across a post

Cool Single Fish For 20 Gallon

In there I found out about the Paradise fish and it looks awesome

Quoting this post

All About The Paradise Fish

"Highly recommended to keep these fish by themselves as you'll see the most amount of personality and interaction with the owner."

After reading the post, feels like the fish is good fit for me.

I started searching for one online (ebay, aquabid) and goggled nearby store, with not much luck. From local stores inventory listing it seems like they don't sell it. Planning to visit stores in person on weekend (planning to cycle the aquarium this week, just received a stand for it).

Any pointers would be really appricated.

TLDR: I live in Raleigh NC and can not find a Paradise fish in nearby stores (being new in area, I do not know many stores though). Aquabid had only two, ebay none. Any pointers?

One more thing, how much does it cost. I do not have set budget and can spend some money, just want to be informed.

Thanks, I will check with them.

my petco has them

Seems like mine didn't, since there website don't show them, I assumed petco doesn't sell them.

How much do they usually cost?

Pets Mart has them also.
Call the stores and ask.
I know petco has fish that aren't listed on their website.

Thank you guys.

Few more question,

Do I need a planted tank or bare bottom would do? gravel?
What size fish should I buy? (Does it matter, I assume color pop up as they grow and growth is highly dependent on condition, so fish might grow better or worst at my place)
What colors they come in? seems like yellow, red and blue combo (one being significant than other) and albino
Also do cycle in bottle work? (I have one)

Some things I found out

1. Planted tank is better for the fish, so getting some shrimps, heater, plants and substrate today.

2. Going to Petco and petsmart today as they are at 5 min from my place and Aquarium outfitters (LFS) tomorrow.

Petsmart girl told me they never get paradise fish but they helped me get plants and some ghost shrimps. Petco girl told me they do get paradise gourami time to time and will ask someone next morning to order one. She asked if I want a blue one or red one. Got some substrate and heater from there, Filled the tank and put two plants in it.

LFS: one didn't have any paradise gourami, one had albino and one had plane blue one. The last store said he can get bright blue red one and it will be $15-20. I said okay and left a number. It will be 2-4 weeks before he gets new stock.

Hi

Is your tank cycled? If its not you should cycle it first.

You will need a lot more plants,

Thanks.

I got few shrimps to cycle it and added one bottle of cycle in bottle as supplement. Added a substrate that says it contains essential live bacteria. Still will keep tank like this for few more weeks.

I will add few more plants.

You will need a lot more plants,

Added few more. 2 are bamboo so slowly growing. The pot is there to weigh down driftwood till it sinks.

Thank you.
Sadly, Shipping is 35 when fish is $2. And that seems like out of stock as well.
