Where to find a female Rosetail

I've been searching the internet for a female rose tail betta. I want a cream colored one, from a breeder. I only saw one female for sale, but you also had to buy a half moon male with her. Is it impossible to find females of these!!! I know it's a rare tail type but still, someone has to be selling females?? I haven't really seen any rose tail males for sale either online. Its so hard to find true rose tails at Petco too. Mine was labeled as a double tail. Ugh.

It is considered unethical to breed rosetails, so not many do. I would stick to a regular HM if you are looking to breed.

I would try aquabid, but some of those vendors are oversees, and ordering from them may mean that you pay additional shipping fees. They have an extraordinary amount of betas on there.

Why is it considered unethical?? Because some of them have way too big fins? Mine has normal sized fins.

Because their fins get so big and heavy as they age that the rays, which are actually tiny bones, collapse and break.

Oh, but what if their fins aren't that big. My rose tail's fins are smaller than my half-moon double tails. He must be mixed with something with smaller fins. I know you may just be like no don't do that, but could I breed him to a regular half-moon, since their so similar, or will that just create offspring with huge fins? He's the only one of mine that I want to breed.
These are his fins:

Are they too big??

The cross would be a mix. If you are looking to breeding, please buy some from a breeder! You might be able to find some very pretty half moons.

I don't recommend the cross, mostly because he's a pet store betta. And you said he was a double tail? If you have a DT, get another. It could result in a halfway split fin in the fry.

ugh, why does this have to be so hard!!!!!!!!! I was just thinking about trying to breed bettas and then I would have to spend more money buying a male from a breeder, which will probably cost over $20 and then same with the female. I already have 3 bettas. I would need to set up another tank to be able to keep two more and then that plus a baby tank. I wanted to just use one of the ones I had. But I know people are going to tell me not to. I can't get rid of this want to breed fish. If I got any other pet it would be the same way though. I'm just obsessed. And it makes me happy.

Unfortunately, spending money, having space, and getting quality breeding animals is how one breeds healthy, happy animals. It's just how it goes. Betta breeding can be pretty complicated too.

I would suggest a live bearer fish such as platys, swordtails, mollys, or guppys. They are much easier to breed then a betta.

I am just getting into breeding myself. I have spent over $200 just in basic supplies, fish, food, and IAL, not to mention all the water conditioners, tanks for the males, and shipping supplies I will need once I get babies. Breeding takes tons of money, time, and space to do it the right way. There is also a huge chance they will get injured while courting. Do you really want to be doing daily water change on all those tanks? It is a huge responsibility, and so recommend starting with something easier.

Instead of what makes you happy, think of what will make the fish happy

I started with livebearers but have to give them away because my parents won't let me get anything larger than a 15 gallon. I think I could breed bettas, but you're right, it is a lot of money. Ive already spent way over $200 on my tanks and supplies. I don't know. And I hate when all people care about is what makes the fish happy. that really bothers me, sorry.

If your parents made you give your livebearers away, then they probably will make you give away all the betta, and their fry too won't they? I mean you need more then one tank for breeding bettas usually as well.

edit: Nevermind I just realized who this was, sorry you didn't want anyone giving you advice that was on your previous posts nor do you want advice based on keeping fish happy and healthy. Only on what makes you happy. I will refrain from posting further on your post. I was not stalking you I promise, just trying to help.

Agee, don't breed if your parents are setting space requirements.
They will need way more room than livebearers.

This is a FISH forum not a fish keeper forum. People look out for the fish more than their keepers. I don't care if it's what you want, you are God to these creatures. It's your responsibility to make sure they have the best care they could possibly have.

I guess I shouldn't post either than. If you don't care about your fishes needs, or want people posting on more than one of your posts, I shouldn't be replying either.

There's a great post at the top of the betta breeding subforum about ethical breeding. Whatever decisions you make, it's a helpful read
