> well this 90g tank we bought used has another problem besides being filthy..it has a piece of the black trim that goes along the bottom (on one of the short ends to protect the glass) missing. I thought we could replace it, as it is for support and to keep glass from being chipped...but I have called around and the lps say I can't buy it, and my tank is no good without it - even though it doesn't leak. And that I should not use it. WELL! I hope you guys are DIY people, because I figure if it can be fixed, I will fix it!
Very discouraged...
Has anyone ever built an aquarium before? Where do you get the trim?
please can someone save my chance at a 90g for my pleco?? :'( :'( ???

hI there hopesmom ..only thing I can think of is making a whole new base out of wood or somthing...that is if you can't buy the proper base anywere??if you went to a cabinet maker with the correct mesurements and a good description of what it is you actully want,I'm sure they could make you a base.. and I don't think it would be very expensive as there isn't that much material needed to make it..that's what I would do ..hope you find something or somone that can help..

thanks David...good idea.
I've sent a pm to Dino to see if he knows anything about trim, as I saw he built a fish house and has tons of fish and experience.
I figured he may have built an aquarium before - or repaired one. (?)
I will definitely need help as I don't want to put 90 gallons of water in the livingroom floor, much less kill my pleco!
I have emailed a site called The Fish Store and they sell frames (trim) ! Hopefully they have what I need and can afford?! Has anyone ever shopped there before? I believe it was
thanks, Denise

I haven't actualy shopped with them, but I once asked thema question in an E-mail and they answered quite fast and they seemed to know what their doing. I think they are quite good.

Just surfing, this is what I've found:

There's not a lot out there about this. If your lfs can't help you, you might want to contact the manufacturer directly about this.

thanks Gunnie! I called the lfs here in my area and everyone said I couldn't buy it, and tried to tell me I had to buy a new tank because it is unsafe (it's a 90g - lotta water, weight..) without the plastic. Well, I've found 2 sources online now that sell the plastic frame. One is at Glasscages.com and the other is at the Lighthouse at m...neither is cheap once you add in the mailing charges. I'm going broke on my fishies! Don't know yet what to do. I've never bought anything online before, as I'm new to internetting, so that scares me too! :-[ Am glad to read that thread you posted, as I forgot about measuring the glass thckness. Thank you!

They are both from Tennessee. Glass cages actually makes the tanks, and The Fish Store is a lfs that also sells a lot of stuff online.
