Where to buy Plant Bulbs and Seeds

I once saw on ebay some tropical aquarium bulbs for plans. is their any company on line that sells plant seed or bulbs for tropical fish aquariums.

 

No seeds that I know of but plenty of bulbs. Google is your friend. Just be careful as not every plant that is sold as aquatic really is aquatic. Many will die and rot in your tank. is also your friend.

Joe, Coralife makes fluorescent bulbs specifically for planted tanks. But I don't think the bulb "has to" be specifically designated as "for plants". It is the spectrum of the bulbs that matters for a planted tank. A lot of other bulbs, not necessarily specifically designated "for planted tanks" are also good for plants, for example: Current USA (SunPaq) and All-Glass Aquarium bulbs. The spectrum that is best for plants is anywhere from 6,700K to 10,000K. This range of spectrum will also give you a pleasant color of lighting. If you go above 10,000K, your tank will have an unpleasant blue or purple hue - which isn't exactly something you want in a planted tank. P.S. You have to be careful when buying bulbs online, not to confuse their types. For example, you may want a regular fluorescent bulb, but you accidentally get a compact fluorescent bulb. So just be careful with that because there are many more different kinds of lighting than just fluorescent lighting. I am not sure if Coralife makes standard fluorescent lighting (I know they DO make compact fluorescent bulbs), but I think they should - you'd have to search the websites I gave you. If you won't find what you're looking for, Hagen also makes regular fluorescent bulbs. Their Life-Glo bulb gives a very nice natural hue. If you like yellowish hue, Hagen's Sun-Glo bulb is right for you. These bulbs you can easily get online at Petco or Petsmart. Hagen also has Flora-Glo specifically for planted tanks, but I never used it and don't know the range of its spectrum.

 

Thank for the information on lighting. But I am looking for actual Live plant bulbs, as they may be easier to purchase and transport. rather than live plants.

 

I don't think I get it, lol. You're looking for a bulb for planted tanks, but you won't have plants in your tank? Is that what you're saying? And I don't think I get why buying and transporting a bulb for planted tanks is easier than buying and transporting any other bulb ...

 

easiest way to explain tulip comes from a bulb you plant in the ground and it grows. tropical aquarium Plant that starts of as a bulb then grows into a plant.

I'm so thirsty for info about everything having to do with my fish and their home, that this was super informative for me...I'm gonna go see what bulb, lightbulb that is, is on my tank right now... I mentioned before that I only have the faux ( extra gaudy plastic cheap) plants, but would like real ones. My dad had duckweed in his tank when I was little, and the fish loved it. So did our parakeet - he would fly over, sit on the edge of the tank and eat it! My dad got the duckweed from a pond in Illinois, and it rode home to Texas in a plastic baggie. No problems that I remember...of course I was little...thanks for a morning laugh! Denise
