Where To Buy Fish/shrimp Online?

So I been looking for various species and I'm realizing one usual trend...they don't sell them in my city.

I been looking to get Blue Velvet Shrimp. I think somebody like richie.p would know what I'm talking about. Those deep blue shrimp. I absolutely love those, and I need them...

Now Amazon has them listed for almost $50 USD for 10 of them...in comparison a Ghost Shrimp here is around 30 cents per shrimp. A Red Cherry is around a dollar. I understand that the price is primarily due to shipping. However, there has to be cheaper.

So I looked for a local source.

I found Arizona Aquatic Gardens...

$6 per 3 shrimp...not bad. So I check 10 shrimp. Total price with shipping? $60.

Then I read the reviews and find it's one of the worst companies in my state for fish.

Great.

So is there a cheaper option? I understand shipping will be pricey because it's live animals, but I'm just looking for an affordable, reputable supplier for these. They're kind of a "dream shrimp" to me.

WetSpot has blue velvet shrimps in stock and many people love ordering their livestock on WetSpot. There's a two day shipping, which is affordable, but I'm not sure on the price for shipping.

Seems their pricing is $5 for just one shrimp, they don't really show any shipping prices, nor their stock. They have them listed, but want me to order through email. They also do not have a live upon arrival guarantee...which worries me despite their reputation.

Wet Spot

Is that the right one?

Yes, but you don't have to do the two day shipping. It says that they will sell a minimum of 6.

Okay, I don't know. I don't like the fact there isn't some kind of guarantee or policy that the shrimp will arrive alive. I understand that when dealing with live animals, it's almost impossible to guarantee that, however it would honestly ease my nerves a bit if I knew that if 9 out of 10 were dead, they'd reimburse me for the 9 that were DOA. I feel like I'd have to argue with somebody over the phone if that happened.

I been looking around, and it kinda pains me to admit, but Amazon is the safest/cheapest bet. Even with the shipping. You get 2 more shrimp than any other site for the same price. If the shrimp show up dead, I can contact support and get refunded instantly (done it before for other things). The seller who sells through amazon is "SoShrimp" and they specialize only in shrimp. Apparently they have 4.5 out of 5 rating on Amazon and I actually have to search to find a negative review. It takes pages to find any. So...I may just do that when money comes in.

I take it you've looked on ebay and tried to source a local private breeder

I lightly looked on ebay...that does actually seem doable.

A little tip for you regarding online suppliers of fish, shrimp etc

If you have DOA livestock, take a photo of the fish/shrimp preferably still in the travel bag and email it with a brief explanation to the supplier

That will prove that the livestock did not survive the journey and they will be duty bound to refund or replace

I only buy livestock for the aquariums online and so far had no issues getting refund/replacement for all DOA

A photo of a dead animal still in the bag never lies and they cannot argue either

I've not ordered any livestock but always get emails from AquaticArts and they gave a live and disease free shrimp guarantee. Might be something to check out.
