where to buy a new aquarium

My wife has granted me almost 5 feet of space in my newly built office. I have taken this space and wired it on its own 30 amp circuit (could be over kill I know). my question is this, where should I get me a tank for this space? I am pretty sure I will got with a 120. I like the 48x24x24 dimensions, but I want to know a good place to get this tank. I do not want to get a 2nd mortgage just to buy a tank.

as far are local stores, I have petco and petsmart. I am certain it will be WAY cheaper to have one shipped in.

No, actually, it probably won't. You can price it out, of course. Petco's online prices for tanks that size are pretty much what they charge in stores, so it certainly wouldn't hurt to check.

I would personally look into Deep Blue aquariums, Glass Cages, and Sea Clear and Clear for Life if you'd prefer an acrylic tank.

You can always look around on Craig's List, your local aquarium club, and your local aquarium classified group on FB (everywhere has one) to see if you can find a good deal on an entire set up. I've seen some great deals for larger tanks and stands + some equipment on the San Diego aquarium classified FB group.

+1 to junebug's above post, especially on point with things like craigslist, local club classifieds (often in their forums) ect. Seen some great setups go on those sort of things, even tanks for free occasionally if someone is dismantling a fish room ect and needs to get those tanks out fast.

Also shipping for large tanks is crazy expensive. Just food for thought

One year ago we bought a 150 gal with hood, tank, stand, Light (useless floresent) for $721.00 OTD (out the door) at pet smart. I found it on line. The catch? There was only one in the state (Ohio) but even with a two hr. drive one way it was vastly cheaper than having one shipped in or what the local shops charged. The best price I found locally for the same tank was $900.00 just for the tank. Be pre paired to put some miles on your van-truck if you want a new one at the best price.

But as has been said above checking out used tanks is a viable option. There is always people that got in over their head and want to get out.

I just picked up a 75 (48x18x21) at PETsmart. Thought the price was going to be$200 on sale but when I order d on line and picked up at the store they gave me a $50 discount. One of my 2 PETCOs also has 125 gallon, 6 feet long.

I have checked both chains and non of them in utah carry anything larger than a 75. As for online, petsmart is in store only and petco does not even list one.

The best I've seen so far is they have free shipping and I can go rimeless. Whats ya'll thought on the company and price with shipping?

I plan on checking my local classifieds and local aquarium club forums. I kinda want new and drilled for overflow. My current bf is used and has minor issues that bug me.

Sorry, I can't help with the reputation of any mail orders.

Shipping is free from that site, can't beat that haha. Seems like a good deal to me. I would still keep an eye out for local used tanks. You might be able to find one already drilled for a good price. It would be a good idea to reseal any used tank you buy though.

I agree, I have some automated alerts setup to notify me if one shows up on my local sites. My only real concern is that there will be scratches or water etching on it like my 36. I also want the outside back to be flawless since I want to paint it for the background.

Personally, I would buy from a local fish store than online. I have found that a few of the lfs stores will price match with the big box stores such as petsmart and petco. My main reason would be, returns. It might be more than a hassle to return, especially if you have to pay the shipping costs.

I also like the idea of "Seeing" it first.
