My camera doesn't work with the PC that is right.

Its a normal town except it is split in half by the highway (Not usual for Bases either), you need a military ID (we have special IDs for this purpose)to get in, most of the housing is the same (Sorted by rank), we are combined with an Army base (Fort Dix) (and that is unusual for a Military base), the work place has HUGE amount of room for the planes, we have an air show once in a while, military people go to Iraq every now and then (My dad has been in Iraq twice and is alive ;D and 47(Also he has been in the Gulf War too  ), and our main stores are the BX (or PX)and Commissary go by those names (The BX (or PX) is run by AFFES which has A LOT of savings ;D )  , Our housing (ranks remember?)barely has a backyard , you are not allowed to change your house (NO paint, NO new rugs, NO new blue prints), and FREE water, electricity, housing, heat.

My dad is retiring from the Air Force on April 6. He has a lot of job opportunities in security.

kerryve

Manicivy, That really is so beautiful!!! Ive never seen snow in my life! sometimes it snows on the Drakensburg mountains here but that's still pretty far, there's a few other places where it snows but you really have to travel far!!! it gets cold here though, -5C coldest ive ever witnessed but no snow!!!

Thanks for the wonderful picture! its so nice to see places youve never been to!

Peter243243, Thanks for telling me a bit about where you stay! Shame no back yard, that must be terrible!!! Epecially when you really want a dog! I bet it feels like you're also in the millitary? hey? I love wide open spaces! but at the same time you're so lucky to get to see loads of airoplanes!!! I hardly ever see! so your dad went to Iraq? that's cool, must have been pretty scary for you family??? my dad went there too, but not to serve his country he went there on business. I was very scared!!!

Thanks guys!!!!!

Butterfly

We have a lot of mountains around us, and it's really pretty. We have light snow every few years but not often.
Carol

kerryve

Oh that's Beautiful Carol!!! It really is! the picture of the snow is so gorgeous! I really would love to see snow!!! and the mountains actaully look pretty similar to the ones we have here along the garden route. I bet you have loads of animials there too!

Golden Fish

Mountains and snow? Welcome to Florida. We don't have either.

This is the view from my backdoor about 5 mins ago. A fairly typical "winter" day in central Fl near Gainesville, with an overcast (it rained earlier) sky and approx 75+ degrees.
I am on 5 acres. There are 30 acres on the other side of my fence that is home to about 15-20 cows. It is sooooooo exciting.

Those are some great photos everybody! Love the snow Butterfly, Gorgeous!
We do get some cool sunsets here.
All of these are from my front yard at different times of the year.

Peter243243

Please don't taunt me with snow!  ;D  ;D

This year in NJ we have a GRAND TOTAL of 0 inches of snow OMG > > . BOOO!!

Butterfly

IF we get anything it's in march or April when everybody else is experiencing spring time
Otherwise we usually wear shorts and T-shirts for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I am putting in pics of where I used to live with her husband and my daughter-in-law first (first 5) and then were I live now.(last 2) The last 2 are countryside shots and I live in town but I thought they would give you an idea of what Nebraska looks like, the first five are right outside of Denver, Colorado.

hehe where I live we get SNOWDAYS=no school, but I live in a school district with a superintendent that doesn't give us many school days. My sister got lucky and didn't go to school for two days because her school had a natural gas leak. I'll try to get some pictures of where I live when I have time, not as scenery as the rest though, I live more in suburbs.

Tom

On New Year's Eve we, in Winnipeg Manitoba, got a total of 15 inches and it was a wet snow.
kerryve- I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I can't really get any pics of it because my camera takes such large pics, but you could just look it up on the internet.

kerryve

Ive got to visit USA and Canada!!! Its sooooo beautiful there! Chickadee, those photos are gorgeous! Youve made up my mind for me Rose! Does it get very cold in Nebraska? I love the cold!

Atm, When I was still in school we had HOTDAYS! we went home sometimes weeks at a time because it was just too hot, 46 degrees celcius was the highest recorded ever! children used to faint cos it was so hot! not pleasant I promise you!

Golden fish, I love sunsets!!! you have some beautiful shots there! Its amazing how the colours change in a few minutes!!! Its unfortunate that its actually our pollution that causes these amazing colours!

Tomh, 15 inches!!! that's a lot, is wet snow when its all sloshy and you can't throw it or anything?

Thanks so much! Its wonderful to see all these places without even going anywhere!!!! I really appreciate it!

Last year I got a snow day.
Same here with the superintendent.

atmmachine816

Haha peter we had one good snow this year when it should have been a snow day but instead they let us out early, my friends and I went sledding it was fun. kerryve I'm sure there's some beautiful places in Africa too and it never gets near that hot where I am in Ohio, it gets down pretty cold sometimes but we never get school off for that, only for snow or ice or if you get lucky natural gas leak like my sister

chickadee

We are having a good winter this year...only had the one major snow and it was so bad that even though most of the snow is gone now, we have thousands of people without electricity almost a week later and crews from all the surrounding states have been coming in to help. In the western half of the state (the other end from me) ranchers are losing cattle because they were out in the range and too far away to feed and no shelter so they either froze to death with the wind chill (70 mph winds)(113 km/hr) or could not get to food and starved.

Otherwise it has been in the neighborhood of 45 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit (7 to 10 degrees Celsius) and that is not too unpleasant.

I have a generator on my house so lucky little fish they did not miss a bubble, but there are others about who may have had problems. I do feel bad about that. Most of our town now has electricity just in time for more snow tonight... The winds in the western half of the state are supposed to get to 100 mph (160 km/hr) tonight and with the snow I feel so sorry for the people and animals there.

My hometown is beautiful though with lots of trees and hills and a river running right through the center of town. It is old-fashioned and has a lot of the old time type of storefronts that are not just put up, they are the real ones just restored. When spring and summer get here and I can get out to walk, I will take my camera and take pictures and send to you.

atmmachine816

Ahhh your so lucky Rose I want snow, were supposed to be having snow but instead it's in the 50's 12-13 C and we are getting rain, should be snow, rarely is it ever this warm for so long. I will get some pics of my flooded backyard tomorrow when it's light out

chickadee

Here are pictures of what it is like to the West of my town by about 90 miles or so and further...they have had a couple more smaller storms since then and some of them are still without power. Yeah, I am all for a good white Christmas but this was RIDICULOUS.

Everyone seems to be talking about USA so I thought I'd tell you a bit about South Wales, UK.

Where I live, we don't have much snow, but if we do it's usualy in February. We usualy get just enough to build a snow man!! We hardly ever get very hot weather either. If we do we get a heatwave for about 1-2 weeks then it's back to normal again. We get a lot of Rain where I live.

We have a lot of mountains and fields and lots of Sheep!!

I live on an estate where there are 84 houses. All the houses look exactly the same from the outside but all are different sizes. I love living where I live (Brynsadler) because it's always quiet, but there isn't much to do. We only have 1 pub at the end of the estate and that's it. (But it's only about 2 miles to the nearest town where there is a train station and shops etc.)

I will try and get pic's of where I live and post them to u.

Gwenz

chickadee

It sounds absolutely lovely, Gwenz. I do wish I could go there someday.

Rose

atmmachine816

wow gwenz sounds so much different from where I live. I live in a smaller city of 50,000 or so people with lots of different developments (groups of similar houses all built by the same company) all over the city with shops all over but most in the middle of town. Here are two pictures of my backyard, first one is of our open backyard with somebody's else's house and the second is our other part of our backyard with trees and birdfeeder, if you look you should be able to see our puddles in the back. Will try to get better pictures later, it's really pretty in the spring and fall, sometimes when we have snow but we have rain instead.

Gwenz

Cool. Looks nice. I will try to get pics by 2moz.

Gwenz

kerryve

Rose, those pictures really are amazing I wouldnt understand you without them, ive never witnessed such things in my life. That weather really must make life difficult! Simply going to the grocery store must be a problem. Its amazing how the ice forms a coating over everything! I heard on the news last night that there had been a huge snow storm in Colorado, and people had been burried in the snow, I only just changed channels and cought the last few words. That's terrible.

Gwenz, Id love to see pics of Whales, my Dad has been there and my husband spent two years in the UK, Its very rainy isn't it. I love the rain, its such a novelty here!

Thanks for the pics atm, your suburbs really are so different to ours! Its just like it is in the movies, hehe - Sorry, the movies are the only way ive been able to see what USA looks like...

Thanks again guys! Ill post some more pics tomorrow of what my city, Randburg looks like! I have a big farm in Heidelburg that's about 100km south from Johannesburg (our capital)

It is very rainy!! It's raining right now actualy!!

So annoying though because it means we can't go outside.

Gwenz

kerryve

In some parts of South Africa there's so little rain that when it does start to rain everybody rushes outside to dance in the rain, its actually very cool!

That seems unusual, but interesting.

Gwenz

Cool!! That wouldn't happen here!!

Anyway, here are the pics.

The first one is of the sky last summer and night it was really nice.
The second is of the very few blue sky we get around this time of year.
The third is of a snowman I build 2 years ago in some of the snow we had. (that was the heaviest snow we'd had in ages.
The 4th pic is of some of the houses in my estate.
Then there is a pic of my street and the pub at the end of it. The pub is called "Y Draenog" which is "The Hedgehog" in welsh.
Then I thought I'd show you some pics I took when I was in Dorset (South England), so the last 2 are from there.

LilaBean

I live in the suburbs of Connecticut-- A town called Middletown, centered in the middle of CT. I love the Fall season and I especially love the sunsets from my balcony-- although they don't even compare to those in S Africa!! How Beautiful!! Here are some of mine...

kerryve

Wow, that's gorgeous!!! Especially the little snowman! very cute!!! the sky is beautiful there!!! you know what I really love about pictures of the UK is the typical houses and the suburbs, the houses are so beautiful and the pic of the pub is great!!! I'm so jealous of my Husband!!! Well I hope to do well this year! maybe I will be luckily enought to go to UK and USA, Id also love to go to Spain!

kerryve

LilaBean,

That is very pretty, Thank you very much, you know, I really do appreciate all these wonderful pics!!! Its not just nice for me, its nice for you to see where everybody else lives too!!!

atmmachine816

Cool sunsets.

Wow that's heavy snow for you, you really must not get a lot of snow, here we get more snow than that every year and a few cities over my cousin's get snow sometimes that they pile up to a two story house and sled down it.

We got some snow last week, then we have rain for the past couple days, once we get a sunny day I'll take a picture of our suburbs.

BettaBuddy ~ Miley

you live in South Africa!!!!???????? Wow!!! I live in Houston , Texas. Miley

kerryve

I have a very special friend who lives in Texas - I think its Micinney or something like that I don't have his address with me now! Ive seen some photos that hes shown me, its very beautiful there!

MamaM

I live near Grand Forks, North Dakota (about 2.5 hours South of Tom in Winnipeg--which is one of my most FAVORITE cities, BTW!). It is the sister city of East Grand Forks, Minnesota (separated by the Red River of the North). It is a flat area perfect for farming, so that's what you see while driving into town (beans, sugar beets, sunflowers, corn, grains, etc.). I grew up in a small town in Minnesota about 110 miles SE of here, so it's close to home (but we have more hills/lakes back home!). We have a little snow right now, and I've attached pics! One is of the KC-135 Stratotankers (air-to-air refueling) assigned to the Air Force Base, one of my daughter making snow angels, and one of the local pumpkin patch/hay maze this fall.

tan.b

there's some amazing pictures there! nothing that interesting here in the UK. I live in England in the middle - Yorkshire. Gwenz climate is the same as ours. maybe a bit rainier in wales? I went to wales when I was younger and it rained...ALOT! as it did when I went to scotland too! I went to northern ireland last year and it was gorgeous there. really green and lush and warm.
it rarely gets to minus figures in england, rarely even get ice or snow anymore. when I was younger we used to get ice and snow everyday from december til feb. now we just get wind and rain. I hate both. when younger used to get a few days of school with snow and gale-force winds. that doesn't happen anymore. (global warming?) I love summer when it gets to about 30-35C. will get some pics on here tomorrow maybe. I live in a suburb. about 5mins drive from 2 main motorways (M62 and M1) so I can get to towns very easily. Leeds is a big city (lots of shops and 2 universities, and 2 hospitals to give an idea), can get there in about 20mins by car. some retail parks 10mins drive away local shop is 10 mins walk away. my town has a small town centre (about 20 shops), but not very useful shops (a couple of carpet shops, a chemist, banks! - you don't spend anything when you go!) that's what the retail parks are for! spend a fortune there!!

anyway, great thread. i'm always interested in other countries! been to europe, but not US or australia. I would LOVE to go to aus. one day when i'm rich and the kids are older i'd like to go for a month and see everything. aires rock, coral reefs, opera house, wild kangaroos and koalas!! etc etc.
