where do you buy your aquarium stands

HI everyone. I'm still trying to find a good sturdy stand or piece of solid wood furniture that can properly support my 50 gallon, which obviously isn't up yet, but needs to be ! I've got my 3 goldies still in my 30gallon, and I need to get them outta there.

I've tried furniture stores, pet stores (yuck, the stuff is all particle board!)
and even online, but the choices are so limited. One online site called glasscages makes wood stands, but I've read mixed customer reviews about them, so I'm afraid to go ahead and order. Also, a DIY project is out of the question for me...

So where do you all buy your stands? The tank is going in my family room, so I need to have an attractive piece, like solid wood cherry or maple. But my main concern is that it be able to support the weight of a 50 gallon tank.

x in advance

lol, I though of you when I read Joy's 1st post.

I happened to get a good deal on Craig's List. However, a few friends have offered to build one for me.

I build mine. They really arn't that hard to build! And are fairly cheap. Not very fancy, but I personally could care less about most of my stand's looks.

You should be able to buy a plain pine stand from any aquarium or almost any pet store. They are cheap on the standard of aquarium stands, are strong & they come unvarnished so that you can varnish them with any tint that you want. They are also very easy to add shelves to if you want or to totally enclose if you would prefer the cabinet look.
The light colored stand in the picture is the plain pine stand with just clear varnish on it & the second picture is of one of my diy stands made of the exact same material but with a tinted varnish to give you an idea of the results you can achieve.

Craigslist or Salvation Army would be the first ones I would check. Great deals are always found on those 2 places.
