My mother took a very rare trip last weekend and had my 16 year old stay at her house to care for her dogs, cats and fish. Meanwhile, it had been 2 weeks since her last water change (she's a chronic over-feeder, no matter how much I get on her about it so weekly is a must!).
On Saturday, I went to her house to change the water -which I do almost every week anyway- and started thinking that I didn't like the way her tank looked. She has a lot of artificial plants (can't convince her to do live) and they just seem.... scattered... for lack of a better description.
So, I went to the LFS and found a beautiful piece of mopani, bought a small bubbler and went back and got to work. I removed some of the plants, rearrange the others, added the mopanI (after I boiled it in one of her really nice pots - don't tell her! lol)
Meanwhile, she texted me and asked how everything was going. I should add here that my mother had complete confidence that my son could take care of all her "special needs" pets but SO worried about him eating while staying by himself. Really? What is it with grandmothers? Trust me, that boy can feed himself. Anyway, I told her everything was fine, I did her water change.... didn't mention the rescape. lol
Thankfully, she really likes the tank and loves the wood. That will teach her to leave me alone with her fish. Now that she realizes my kid won't starve being by himself for 4 days, she's planning another trip in November. I think that tank will get live plants. I'm a terrible daughter.
