20200415_093921.jpgThis is my female gold dust molly, Joyce. She is very pregnant and has been so for a couple weeks now. Her belly is very large and she is rather frantic.

Hopper, my male gold dust molly, is bothering her incessantly, chasing and nipping at her anal area. I know that this can be a sign of the female being pretty gravid.

Due to her black tail, I cannot see the gravid spot.

I have a seperate 5 gallon tank set up just in case, but when should I move her?

She was just in the seperate tank as she had ich and was being treated in there. The tank had an 80% water change yesterday to remove the medicine.

I do want the fry to survive.

Advice?

What is your male:female ratio? If she's the only female in the tank, he will never stop pestering her - it's just how male livebearers are.

She does look pretty close, maybe in the next few days to a week. If she doesn't mind being in a five gallon, and the five gallon is cycled and has plenty of fry hiding spots, it won't do any harm to move her there to stop the constant pestering and decrease her stress until she drops.

My ratio is 1M:3F
I have the one male, the gold dust, with 3 females, 1 orange sailfin, 1 dalmatian, and the 1 gold dust. All are lyretails.

The thing is, he practically does not notice the other females. It is like they don't exist. Ever since they were added, he just ignores them. (Which is sad I was hoping for some hybrids)

Even when she was seperated, the extra tank was next to the big one, and he spent all his time chasing her through the glass and ignored the other females.

When she was separated, she was frantic too. She chased him through the glass as well and didn't rest. It's really odd behavior?

I figured if/when i put her into the 5 gal, I'd put a sheet between the tanks so they can't see each other and therefore she'd be calmer?

Thanks for the advice!

Update: I have her in the 5 gallon all set up, with an old paper folder blocking her view into the main tank to lower stress. I'll keep updating as things occur!

Help! Big concern... She's been in the 5 gallon all day today and doing pretty well besides being a bit frantic. I just noticed that she is frantically swimming around the tank, and has very labored breathing. In other words, breathing very heavy!!

Someone, I need advice. I don't want her to abort the babies, but if I put her back in the big tank and she gives birth the fry will all get eaten!!
