Hi,

I'm wondering how often the carbon filter should be changed in my Tetra Whisper ex30? And, how do I change it without disrupting the cycle?

Thanks!

Can two cartridges fit inside the filter? That's the issue with cartridge filters, you really have no choice but to switch out the entire cartridge. Ideally, carbon should be replaced every two-three weeks.

It's not recommended to switch out cartridges, but if you want to, you must
1. Place new cartridge right next to the old one (or tuck new one into old cartridge) in the filter.
2. Leave it like this for 2-4 weeks to seed in BB to new one.
3. After 2-4 weeks, throw out the old one.

Many people don't use carbon because it's unecessary, and carbon only lasts for only a month. So a month later, I will just dump it out and never get carbon again. Though, you can replace it if you want.

The Tetra Whisper ex series filter have bio scrubbers which is where the cycle is held. If the tank is cycled you should be able to change the carbon cartridge every 3 or 4 weeks or anytime you want to change it. I use to use a few years ago until I switched to canisters.
