When to add fish to new tank that has seeded filter

HI all, I was wanting to know when setting up a new tank that will have an established filter, when is the best time to add the fish? How long can you wait before your bacteria would start to die off? I have an aqueon hob that will be coming off of my 25gal that I will be using on my new 10 gal.This aqueon filter has only been cycled for 2 1/2 mths, do yall think it will work? The filter will be coming off of a 25 gal(2) blood parrots tank going on a 10 gal for my 25 molly and platty babies just until they are big enough to sex so I can separate them. Please any suggestions?

 

I would add fish immediately. The beneficial bacteria would die if they don't have a food source. If the bio loads are the same then you would have an instant cycle from old tank to new tank.

Have you thought about getting those nursery tanks (mesh box) and putting it in your 25 gallon with your molly and platy frys until they get big enough? At the same time, you can start cycling the 10 gallon?

 

Agree, swapping filter to new tank should give you instant cycle. Use fresh water.

 

Thank you both amazonpassion and psalm18.2. I did have all the babies in a breeder net box inside my 30 gal but it seemed to crowded with there being 25+ fish in it. I have moved all the babies to their new home and they seem to be doing really great! All my readings check out and the fry seem happy! I will be checking my numbers everyday to make sure there is no ammonia or nitrites.

 

The aquarium I recently bought came with a seeded filter and I was able to add fish right away. I was not sure whether I should try to match the previous bio-load or only a small number a fish. I ended up adding four fish at first to play it safe. It has been running great for the previous month though and all of my numbers are perfect.
