When to add ammonia when using stability

Hey guys,

Today I added my first and only full capful of seachem stability into my tank. I will follow the instructions and add a capful every week from now on. My question is, when do I add my fish food as my source of ammonia? Do I add it on the first day or do I add it on the last day? Please let me know.

cheers. :)

You can add it now. . . The cycling process won’t begin until you add an ammonia source (decaying fish food in this case).

Have you considered using pure ammonia (unscented and no surfactants) or Dr. Tim’s ammonium chloride rather than fish food. Those are much easier to dose to a targeted level of ammonia.

Edit to add. . . Stability may or may not speed up the cycling process. I’ve used it and don’t think it made much, if any, difference.

This is your first tank?

This is my 2nd tank. My first fish only lasted 3 months due to an ammonia spike so im trying to learn my lesson.

If u think stability isn't the best beneficial bacteria what is the best?

To start, are you familiar with the nitrogen cycle?

Is your first tank still running? If so, can you take some of the filter media from it and put it in the filter of your new tank to jump start the cycling process?

The best beneficial bacteria. . . This may come across as sarcastic, but that's truly not my intent. The best beneficial bacteria IMO is the bacteria that grows naturally in a tank during the typical 4 - 6 week cycling process.

If you're absolutely set on using a bottled bacteria product, folks seem to be having a fair amount of success with this. . .

Some folks have also had success with Stability. . . I just don't know that it produces consistent results.

The last time my tank was set up was around 5 months ago. I was gone from home for 9 weeks so I kinda forgot about the hobby.

Now being back, I was determined to make it work so im doing all my research.

I was just wondering if i add the fish food multiple times during the week or just once?
